A Dallas singer has been hospitalized after she was shot on stage following a performance with The Black Academy of Arts and Letters in downtown Dallas on Saturday, police said. 26-year-old Jada Arnell Thomas had been signing autographs on stage when a woman in the crowd shot her, witnesses told NBC DFW. Thomas was transported to a local hospital by Dallas Fire Rescue and is reported to be in stable condition, the Dallas Police Department told NBC News. While she was on stage Saturday, King wrote that Thomas thanked him "for always supporting us and giving us a 'safe' place to work." “It was a packed house, people were in line getting autographs and we heard this shot,” King told NBC DFW.

Heat waves are hitting individuals and small businesses the hardest, reports say. The record heat is bad for the finances as well as the health of the most vulnerable. While grids appear to be coping with extra demand from the heat wave afflicting tens of millions of Americans, some small businesses and residents are under extra pressure. California, Arizona, and Texas have hit temperatures well above that level this summer. According to data from the association, domestic energy bills will jump almost 12% this summer to an average of $578, up from $517.

☆ Search for missing Texas woman continues as car found and person of interest arrested

A search is underway for a Texas woman who was reported missing a week ago and whose car was subsequently found in a desolate area before authorities took a person of interest into custody. NBC DFWFriends reported Kayla Kelley, 33, missing on Jan. 11 after not hearing from her for several days. Her car was subsequently found "in a remote area of Frisco," a city about 30 miles north of Dallas, the Collin County Sheriff's Office said. The Collin County Sheriff's Office and District Attorney's Office could not immediately be reached. A local nonprofit, Search One Rescue Team, which helps law enforcement with lost and missing cases, told NBC affiliate KXAS of Dallas that the sheriff's office and the Texas Rangers enlisted their help in the search Friday and Monday, respectively.
