Previously, Musk had promised the Tesla Model S Plaid would deliver acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in under 2 seconds, and he crowed about "breaking the 2-second barrier," repeatedly on Thursday. But he also caveated some of his own sweeping safety claims by noting that NHTSA has not yet rated the Model S Plaid for safety. On Thursday, Musk offered no significant details on the Model S Plaid battery pack, saying simply, "We have an all-new battery pack." He noted that the Model S Plaid can get 187 miles of range in just 15 minutes plugged into a Tesla Supercharger. Musk also touted myriad changes to the Model S Plaid interior, most of which were previously disclosed.

Tesla kicked off deliveries of its Model S Plaid on Thursday. Tesla has started delivering its Model S Plaid, a $130,000 super sedan that Elon Musk promises is the "quickest production car ever made of any kind." The standard Model S isn't a slow car by any means, but the Plaid kicks things into supercar territory. In one video posted to Twitter, the Plaid hits 60 mph in a bit over two seconds and reaches 100 mph in around five before hitting a top speed of 104 mph. Another video does a better job showing exactly how quickly the Plaid sprints to 60 mph and then to 100 mph.

Elon Musk is aiming to breathe new life into Tesla Inc.’s high-end sedan that helped establish the company as the world’s leading electric-vehicle maker. The Silicon Valley company late Thursday is poised to mark the delivery of a souped-up version of its luxury sedan. The vehicle, dubbed Model S Plaid, can accelerate from zero to 60 miles an hour in less than two seconds, Tesla says on its website, and is priced starting around $130,000. The revamp comes nearly a decade after Tesla launched the car, which became one of the world’s first widely sold battery-powered vehicles. But sales have slumped in recent years as the company has focused on developing more-affordable vehicles.

Model vehicles are nearly exclusively a niche adult hobby in Communist-run Cuba, where they have not been stocked in shops for years, and where enthusiasts either have to get resourceful to keep old toys working or handcraft their own new ones. The audiovisual technician says it was his grandfather, a railroad maintenance worker, who initiated him into the real world of trains before bequeathing him the model train set. "When I was a small boy, he would put me on Cienaga's steam locomotives, that don't exist anymore," he said. Across town, graphic designer Aurelio Tabares views the scarcity of model vehicles as a golden business opportunity. Uber and Lyft Ramp Up Legislative Efforts to Shield Business Model

Gig companies like Uber and Lyft have long resisted classifying workers as employees, stating in regulatory filings that doing so would force them to alter their business model and risk a financial hit. Industry officials have estimated that making drivers employees could raise labor costs 20 to 30 percent. But the talks collapsed because many in the labor movement refused to make significant concessions while holding the legislative upper hand. A number of rulings in New York granted gig drivers conventional unemployment benefits in the state, potentially leading to hundreds of millions of dollars in liabilities for the companies. And there were New York City regulations — like a minimum pay standard for drivers amounting to over $17 an hour after expenses — that some gig companies have sought to ease.

Tesla Model 3 loses key Consumer Reports rankings

New York (CNN Business) Tesla's best-selling Model 3 sedan lost two designations from Consumer Reports after the company made changes to the car's automatic braking and front collision warning systems. The car also was stripped of its designation as Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The moves came after Tesla announced that, as of May 1, its Model 3 and Model Y SUVs replaced the radar based system it used to detect obstacles with a camera-based system it dubbed "Tesla Vision." The change in technology prompted the US federal safety regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to drop the cars' listing as having automatic braking or a front collision warning system. And that, in turn, prompted Consumer Reports to change its rating on the Model 3.

Elon Musk says Tesla officially canceled the Model S Plaid Plus

Tesla has canceled the most expensive variant of its flagship sedan, the Model S Plaid Plus, according to a tweet from CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. In March, Tesla raised the price of the Model S Plaid Plus by $10,000 bringing it to about $150,000. The option to order the Model S Plaid Plus variant was removed from Tesla's website around the last week of May, according to a CNET report. Musk previously planned a "delivery" ceremony at the Tesla factory in Fremont, California for the Model S Plaid on June 3. It produced none of the higher-priced Model S or Model X vehicles during the first quarter of 2021, even though Musk had said production was underway during a 2020 fourth-quarter earnings call.

New York (CNN Business) Elon Musk is pulling the plug on his promised Tesla Model S Plaid+ super car about a year before it was expected to go on sale. Tesla still plans a "Plaid" version of the car. The Plaid+ was set to be $30,000 more expensive than the standard Plaid version, costing just under $150,000. All the versions of the Model S and the high-end Model X SUV together represented only 11% of Tesla sales last year , with the lower-priced Model 3 sedan and Model Y SUV becoming the mainstays for the company. But the Model S and Model X likely have better profit margins than the Model 3 and Model Y, making them important models for Tesla's lineup.
