A still image from a video shows former Milwaukee hotel workers holding down D'vontaye Mitchell at the downtown Hyatt Regency on June 30. Turner told authorities he “observed DM begging and harassing a guest of the hotel,” according to the criminal complaint. In the complaint, Turner said he told Mitchell not to enter the hotel but saw him do so and beg for money. Mitchell gets up and attempts to reenter the hotel but is pushed back outside, where Turner, Johnson-Carson and Williamson surround him. Hotel security footage appeared to show him striking Mitchell once with a closed fist, according to the document.

Federal court records show that Joshua Conner Jones entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors regarding the treatment of two inmates at the Walker County jail. Jones agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to deprive an inmate of their rights related to the 2023 death of Tony Mitchell. The plea agreement indicated there were five co-conspirators in the mistreatment that led to Mitchell’s death, an indication that the investigation is ongoing and more people could be charged in the death. Court documents did not name the inmate who died, but Bower confirmed the charge was related to Mitchell’s 2023 death. Prosecutors wrote in the plea agreement that Jones admitted that “collectively we did it.

What’s Uniting, and Dividing, Native Voters in ArizonaNative American voters were key to helping Democrats clinch Arizona in 2020. But in this election, many Native voters say they feel exhausted, disappointed and torn about how to vote. But overall it was frustration and anxiety that we heard as we talked with more than four dozen voters around Phoenix and on the Navajo Nation, the country’s largest reservation, about their concerns. Many voters felt like they had been left out of the state’s growing economy, with unemployment for Native Americans almost double the national average. Most of the voters we spoke to said no, but some were willing to give him another shot.

CNN —The mayor of Uvalde, Texas, is calling on District Attorney Christina Mitchell to resign and filed a lawsuit accusing her of repeatedly blocking the city’s investigation into last year’s shooting at Robb Elementary School that left 19 students and two teachers dead. “It’s been fifteen months since this tragedy, and I feel the families and our community deserve answers,” Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin said in a written statement attached to a lawsuit filed Tuesday. Mitchell “has been involved in a cover-up regarding the City’s investigation into the Robb School tragedy,” McLaughlin alleged.
