CleverCards, a Dublin-based firm, uses a digital platform linked to configurable expense cards to give companies control over how their employees use their corporate payment cards. CleverCards CEO Kealan Lennon says his platform aims to tackle exactly that. Lennon said that CleverCards' funding round stood out in what has been a brutal market for dealmaking and fundraising in fintech. CleverCards will use the fresh funds to expand its business, scale its products and explore broader opportunities, it said. In addition to the fundraise, CleverCards appointed five new non-executive directors to its board with experience in payments technology.

☆ A college senior used AI to try and disprove the long-held belief that all fingerprints are unique

The study relied on AI's discovery of similarities between different fingers belonging to the same person to argue that each fingerprint is, in fact, not totally unique. Some of the pairs came from two different fingers belonging to the same person, while other pairs were two different people's fingers. The AI system discovered that fingerprints from different fingers belonging to the same person were incredibly similar. Researchers honed in on the angles and curvatures at the center of the fingerprint to find these similarities, Guo told CNN. "I think this study is just the first domino in a huge sequence of these things," Guo told CNN.

A 2015 study found that less than half of eligible seniors participated in the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. In addition, those enrolled in Medicare Part D, which covers prescriptions, should look to see if they qualify for Extra Help. The council also has a guide called You Gave, Now Save, including information on the most generous benefits that help older people with expenses like their phone bill and property taxes.
