The North Carolina Supreme Court ruled Monday to remove former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from state ballots ahead of the general election. The newly discovered fossils preserved 3D structures within the delicate wing bones, which typically are found flattened like pancakes within rock layers. CT scans of the fossils provided a rare glimpse inside the wing bones belonging to two species of pterosaurs, including one new to science. These are not unlike those found in the wing bones of modern birds that flap their wings to fly, Rosenbach said. In contrast, spiral ridges within Arambourgiania’s wing bones resembled the interiors of vulture wing bones, which are thought to resist the forces associated with soaring. “They represent the largest animals with the capacity to fly,” Rosenbach said of the extinct reptiles.

Five secretaries of state on Monday urged Elon Musk to fix his social media platform X’s artificial intelligence search assistant after it allegedly shared false information about the 2024 presidential election. “In all nine states the opposite is true,” said the letter, which was first reported by The Washington Post. In Monday’s letter, the secretaries of state wrote that Grok’s false claim was “shared on multiple social media platforms” within hours of Biden’s announcement. But “the false information about ballot deadlines has been captured and shared repeatedly in multiple posts — reaching millions of people,” the officials wrote. “Furthermore, Grok continued to repeat this false information for more than a week until it was corrected on July 31, 2024,” the letter alleged.

An act of political violence in a small Michigan town left an 80-year-old man in critical condition over the weekend, local officials said. The attack unfolded on Sunday evening in Hancock, a city in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, when a man ripped out yard signs supporting former President Donald J. Trump. He then used an all-terrain vehicle to run over the 80-year-old who was trying to put the signs back up, the local authorities said. Since an unusual bird flu outbreak was first detected in dairy cows in March, experts have warned that the virus could be infecting more farm workers than have been officially detected. In recent weeks, state and federal officials have been working to unravel part of that mystery: whether silent, undetected infections are occurring in farm workers. Officials in Michigan recently began testing the blood of 35 dairy workers for antibodies to the virus, which would provide evidence of past infection. All worked on dairy farms in Michigan that had suffered outbreaks, and many worked directly with sick cows, the agency said. The farm workers tested were also volunteers, which means that they may not be representative of dairy workers more broadly.
