There are additional requirements for French residents, and passengers under 16 are not allowed to travel unaccompanied by an adult on direct trains to or from the Netherlands.
However, as the employee also noted, different member hostels may have their own rules about age requirements.
The Netherlands-based Stayokay hostels, for example, require a minimum age of 16 years for travelers unaccompanied by an adult at their 21 locations.
