His comments come despite record contract offers from General Motors , Ford Motor and Stellantis that now include 23% hourly pay increases and other significantly enhanced benefits during the terms of the four and a half-year deal. "These are already record contracts, but they come at the end of decades of record decline. Despite Fain's comments, the union did not announce additional strikes Friday against any of the companies. He said it should be the UAW and Ford against foreign automakers," Fain said. About 34,000 U.S. automakers with the companies, or roughly 23% of UAW members covered by the expired contracts with the Detroit automakers, were on strike.

Members of the United Auto Workers union picket outside the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan, on Sept. 26, 2023. DETROIT – The United Auto Workers union is holding up negotiations with Ford Motor over future electric vehicle battery plants, Ford CEO Jim Farley claimed during a press briefing Friday. "I believe we could have reached a compromise on pay and benefits but so far the UAW is holding the deal hostage over battery plants," he said after the UAW announced it would expand strikes to two additional assembly plants — one each for Ford and General Motors. Farley's public criticism of the union is uncharacteristic for Ford, which is historically viewed as the most union-friendly company of the Detroit automakers. Farley said the company isn't "at an impasse" with the union but warned that day "could come if this continues."

General Motors CEO Mary Barra talks with reporters following a meeting with lawmakers from Michigan and Ohio at the U.S. Capitol June 05, 2019 in Washington, DC. DETROIT – General Motors is attemping to avoid a looming strike by the United Auto Workers union through a new offer Thursday that includes significant pay increases, more vacation days and better benefits for retirees, among other perks. The proposal, which GM CEO Mary Barra called "compelling and unprecedented," addresses many of the union's demands but continues to fall short on others, such as a 40% pay increase over the four years of the deal that UAW sought. GM released details of the deal roughly nine hours before the UAW could initiate targeted strikes against GM, Ford Motor and Stellantis if deals are not reached by 11:59 p.m. "Today, we put a compelling and unprecedented economic package on the table that reflects the significance of this critical moment."

DETROIT – The United Auto Workers and Detroit automakers remain far apart ahead of the union "likely" strategically striking the companies after an 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday deadline, UAW President Shawn Fain said Wednesday night. Fain also laid out general plans about how the union expects to strategically strike the Detroit automakers, if needed. Fain referred to the union's plans as a "stand-up strike," a nod to historic "sit-down" strikes by the UAW. He also said Fain missed a Tuesday meeting that he and Ford Chair Bill Ford believed he would be attending.

DETROIT – Ford Motor 's second-quarter sales increased 9.9% from a year earlier, spurred by significant sales gains of its F-Series trucks. "Our EV sales continue to grow. Improved Mustang Mach-E inventory flow began to hit at the end of Q2 following the retooling of our plant earlier this year, which helped Mustang Mach-E sales climb 110% in June." Ford's electric vehicle sales remain small for now: EVs represented just 2.8% of the automaker's total sales during the second quarter, while traditional internal combustion engines represented roughly 91% of sales.

DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford Motor is making its case to Wall Street at an investor event Monday, sharing details of its plan to profitably build millions of EVs while growing its traditional operations. Ford CEO Jim Farley kicked off the day discussing the company's growth plans for its gas-powered, fleet, and electric business units. The company's traditional car business earned $2.6 billion, and the automaker's fleet operations reported $1.4 billion in earnings. Galhotra said while the company expects its sales of traditional vehicles to begin declining after 2025 in exchange for EVs, vehicles with internal combustion engines will be around "well into" the next decade, he said. Profitably balancing the shift from traditional vehicles with engines to EVs is an increasingly difficult challenge for traditional automakers such as Ford.
NEW YORK — An upcoming Ram electric pickup truck from Stellantis will offer up to 500 miles of driving range when fully charged, the automaker said Wednesday as it officially revealed the vehicle. That range would top Ram's current gas-powered 1500 full-size trucks as well as all-electric pickups currently available such as GMC's Hummer EV, Ford's F-150 Lightning and Rivian's R1T. Tesla has said its Cybertruck, which is expected later this year, would be capable of up to 500 miles of EV range. "We are delivering an electric pickup truck when we should, because for electrification being first actually might not be the best," Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. said during the event. "The Ram 1500 REV lineup will give our customers options depending on how they use their truck."
Incoming Ford CEO Jim Farley (left) and Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. pose with a 2021 F-150 during an event Sept. 17, 2020 at the company's Michigan plant that produces the pickup. DETROIT – Ford Motor is about to tell investors what they've long wondered: How much is the transition to electric vehicles costing? Those new business units include "Ford Blue," Ford's traditional internal combustion engine business; its "Model e" electric vehicle unit; the "Ford Pro" commercial and government fleet business; "Ford Next," which includes nonautomotive mobility solutions and other future tech; and its existing Ford Credit financial services subsidiary. The changes amount to the most detailed look yet by any legacy automaker into the finances behind the EV business. Farley and other executives have emphasized that the reporting changes aren't just about disclosure: The new format reflects the way Ford's executive team thinks about and runs the business.
Ford sold 91 million shares of the EV startup in 2022, according to the filing. Ford's sale of the shares was worth about $3 billion in total proceeds, the company said, a substantial gain on its $1.2 billion investment in Rivian. Ford, as of the end of last year, still owned about 11 million of its initial 101.9 million shares of Rivian. Ford first invested in Rivian in 2019, before the EV maker went public. But as a result of that initial investment, Ford was among the largest stakeholders in the company upon Rivian's blockbuster IPO in 2021, with a 12% stake.
Ram 1500 Revolution BEV electric concept pickup truck Stellantis"This is a vision, or a glimpse, into the future of Ram Trucks," Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. told CNBC. The electric Ram truck is expected to enter an increasingly crowded segment of electric pickups that already includes the GMC Hummer EV, Ford F-150 Lightning, Lordstown Endurance and smaller Rivian R1T. Ram 1500 Revolution BEV electric concept pickup truck StellantisThe design of the concept electric Ram pickup appears to be more of a lifestyle pickup rather than a traditional work truck, but executives said the production vehicle will serve both purposes. "The TRX (a performance version of the Ram 1500) has that in spades," Gilles told CNBC.
This year wasn't about which auto manufacturer stock performed the best. All major automakers and EV startups experienced double-digit declines this year – partially or completely offsetting their gains in 2021. Many once-promising EV startups were among the biggest losers, as some ran into capital troubles or couldn't scale production as quickly as anticipated. Traditional automakers were able to temper their stock declines better than the EV startups. But America's largest automakers – General Motors and Ford Motor – both experienced declines of more than 40%, barring any surprise rally to end the year.
Corey Williams, plant manager at Ford's Dearborn Truck Plant and Rouge electric vehicle center, outlines the automaker's production plans for the F-150 Lightning electric pickup during a facility tour on Dec. 13, 2022. DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford Motor has added a third production shift to its Michigan plant that produces the electric F-150 Lightning as it looks to boost output. The addition of the third shift comes as the automaker is expanding the newly built facility to hit a top capacity of 150,000 units by next fall. Ford is on track to hit that previously announced production milestone, Corey Williams, plant manager of the Dearborn Truck Plant and Rouge electric vehicle center, said during a tour of the facility Tuesday. The third shift was added in November, bumping up the electric truck plant's employment from 500 to roughly 750 people.
The carmaker is calling the seven-seat SUV its new flagship vehicle, starting at under $80,000. The company said production of the car is expected to begin in the U.S. next year, with production in China to follow. All EX90s will come standard with a lidar sensor and related software from Florida-based Luminar.
