SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Jazz Chisholm Jr. got disappointing news on his 26th birthday, losing to the Miami Marlins in the first salary arbitration decision of the year.
The outfielder will be paid $2,625,000 rather than his $2.9 million request, Margaret Brogan, Jeanne Vonhof and Scott Buchheit ruled Thursday.
He went 0 for 8 with four strikeout as the Marlins were swept by Philadelphia in their NL Wild Card Series.
Chisholm had a $749,500 salary last year and was eligible for arbitration for the first time.

MIAMI (AP) — Kim Ng is leaving the Miami Marlins after three seasons as general manager, Marlins chairman and principal owner Bruce Sherman announced Monday.
The Marlins exercised their team option for her to return for the 2024 season, Sherman said in a statement, but Ng declined her mutual option.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Marlins family and its fans for my time in South Florida.
The last full season in which the Marlins made the playoffs was in 2003, when they won the World Series.
“We thank Kim for her contributions during her time with our organization and wish her and her family well,” Sherman said.

MIAMI (AP) — Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara will miss the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on Friday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
“I give this game my all,” the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner said in a social media post.
His injury was initially reported as a forearm strain, but was later diagnosed as a UCL sprain — an injury that typically requires Tommy John ligament-replacement surgery.
Alcantara experienced forearm tightness following rehab outing with Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 21, and the setback ended his season.

New York CNN —When the Miami Marlins bested the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, Kim Ng became the first female general manager to lead a Major League Baseball team into the playoffs.
And while the Marlins’ postseason was short lived — ending Wednesday night after a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies — it marked a major milestone for Ng.
Her hiring followed 30 years of experience in the MLB, including with the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, two of the winningest teams in the league.
When she joined the Marlins, the team was facing serious struggles, including the loss of big-name players, low attendance and a limited budget.
“Kim was the first person I called,” Jeter told the “Today” show in 2021 of Ng’s hiring.

Yes, I’m going to write about this a little bit more.
Settle down.
I have a job to keep and two children to put through college, and nobody was going to read my column about the magical rise of the Miami Marlins, anyway.
