The reason for the reports of a deteriorating service in Ukraine are unclear, and Starlink, SpaceX and Musk declined to comment. Even with the Starlink devices that are firmly in the Ukrainian military’s control, there is a concern among Ukrainian officials that Russians may hijack their communications or hack them. Ukraine’s SBU intelligence service claimed last year that Russian military hackers were trying to steal battlefield communications sent from Ukrainian soldiers’ mobile devices to Starlink terminals. She promised 30 at a later date, and also posted images of a stack of 20 apparent donated Starlink units. Ukrainian units have also been posting footage of multiple drone strikes against Russian trenches where Starlink terminals have been spotted.

It swerves and is hit by a grenade, dropped from a Ukrainian drone. Russian soldiers appear to stagger away from it, one rolling. Yet since the fall of Avdiivka on February 17, Ukrainian military officials have reported regular Russian assaults on Robotyne. Two Russian soldiers can be seen clambering inside the ruins of a dugout, one manhandling a shovel. Ukrainian drone pilots now face Russian counterparts who have replaced their units but at a much larger scale, they said.

Ukraine is using Leopard tanks more like long-range artillery than attack vehicles, AFP reported. AdvertisementUkraine is using the advanced Leopard tanks it received from its Western allies defensively rather than as penetrative offensive weapons, news agency Agence France-Presse reported. A Leopard tank's 120mm cannon has an effective range of about 2.4 miles, while an M777 howitzer has a 13-mile range, more than 5 times as far. AdvertisementUkraine's allies agreed to give it Leopard tanks in January, after months of Ukrainian requests and after pressure from its smaller allies that didn't have any of their own to give. AdvertisementWhile Ukraine waited, Russia built formidable defenses and turned Ukraine into the world's most heavily mined country.

REUTERS/Alexander Ermochenko/file photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 8 (Reuters) - Russian forces, their numbers swelled by reserves, tightened their vise around the shattered eastern city of Avdiivka on Wednesday, but Ukrainian forces are holding defensive lines, Ukrainian military officials said. Anton Kotsukon, spokesperson for the 110th separate mechanised brigade, said Russian forces were massed on three sides of the town. Russian forces, he said, were "playing cat and mouse", sending up "huge numbers" of drones while deploying artillery forces to secure a better picture of the town's defences. It was seized briefly in 2014 when Russian-backed separatists captured chunks of eastern Ukraine, but Ukrainian troops retook it and built up fortifications. Ukrainian forces regard Avdiivka as a gateway for future advances to recapture territory in the east - the large Russian-held town of Donetsk is 20 km away.

But in mid-October, some Russian military bloggers reported that Ukrainian forces had formed a small bridgehead on the eastern bank. Shortly after, Ukrainian soldiers breached the first line of defences south of the town of Velyka Novosilka in the first known breakthrough of the counteroffensive. Military analysts and authorities in Kyiv said Ukraine had badly damaged a large landing ship and an attack submarine. Just over a week later, a Ukrainian missile attack hit Russia's Black Sea naval headquarters in Sevastopol. In mid-October, Ukrainian forces used U.S.-supplied long-range ATACMS missiles for the first time, damaging airfields near Luhansk in Ukraine's east and in Berdiansk on the Sea of Azov, both under Russian control.

Ukrainian troops trained by NATO say they are left underprepared for the war with Russia. They said their Western instructors don't have experience in fighting this kind of war. About 63,000 Ukrainian troops have been trained in the West — mostly in the UK and Germany, per the report. "Dutchman" said that while NATO training can be useful for things like shooting and learning to use equipment, most major combat training occurred in Ukraine. But due to time constraints, Ukrainian troops often don't reach those levels, Reynolds said.

Here's what we know about the new Ukrainian units. TWELVE BRIGADESNATO allies and partners helped Ukraine equip and train nine new armoured brigades for the counteroffensive, the military alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed in April. By April, Ukrainian units had received more than 1,550 armoured vehicles, 230 tanks, other equipment and vast amounts of ammunition, Stoltenberg said. In mid-May, one Russian military blog noted a buildup of Ukrainian forces and equipment in southeastern Zaporizhzhia region and the neighbouring Dnipropetrovsk region, estimating Kyiv's troop numbers at 50,000-55,000. ARE ANY OF THESE UNITS FIGHTING YET?

Russia's Wagner private army began handing over its positions to regular Russian troops this week after declaring full control of Bakhmut following the longest and bloodiest battle of the war. In a statement on Telegram, Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said Russian forces have continued attacking but that "overall offensive activity has decreased". "The decrease in the enemy's offensive activity is due to the fact that troops are being replaced and regrouped," Maliar said. The commander of Ukraine's ground forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, posted a video on Saturday which he said depicted Ukrainian special forces operating inside the ruined city. Ukraine's top general posted a sleekly produced video on Saturday showing Ukrainian troops swearing an oath and preparing for battle.
Separately, senior Ukrainian officials indicated their forces were ready to launch a long-promised counteroffensive to recapture territory taken by Russia since the start of the war. In a statement on Telegram, Ukraine Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said Russian forces were continuing to attack but that overall offensive activity had decreased. Kyiv is expected to soon launch a highly anticipated counteroffensive to retake Russian-occupied territory. The head of the Wagner mercenary force, which is spearheading the Russian attack on Bakhmut, said his forces had advanced up to 400 meters. "We're pushing Bakhmut all the way to the end," he said in an audio recording on his Telegram channel. She said that Russia had attacked Bakhmut all day having "significantly strengthened" its grouping in Bakhmut by bringing most of its reserves there. Kyiv has for days been hailing battlefield successes around Bakhmut that could eventually trap Wagner's forces inside the city. Prigozhin, who said a week ago that his forces' flanks were under pressure near Bakhmut, said they continued to be eroded.
LONDON, April 8 (Reuters) - Russia or pro-Russian elements are likely behind a leak of classified U.S. military documents that offer a partial snapshot of the war in Ukraine, three U.S. officials told Reuters, while the Justice Department said it was probing the leak. Reuters could not immediately verify the reports and it was unclear how Ukraine could have attempted such a strike. The Ukrainian military said it was holding on in the city but the situation was difficult. But Yevgeny Prigozhin, who has accused the military top brass of ineffectiveness bordering on treason in recent months, said this was still some way off. Prigozhin made clear that he was not yet satisfied with the support he was receiving from Russia's mainstream forces, including those attacking adjacent areas of the front. "The first question is to make sure that our flanks are well protected (that's with a big exclamation mark)," he said. Tensions with Moscow had appeared to subside after his representative was pointedly refused access to the headquarters of Russia's Ukraine campaign a month ago.
