Read previewAs a competitive bodybuilder, Mark Taylor spent decades training hard and eating a strict low-carb diet, only to miss out on the top prizes in his native Scotland. That was until he made a drastic change: Taylor started eating carbs, and lots of them, mostly in the form of potatoes. Over the previous 10 years, he has been crowned Mr. England, Mr. United Kingdom, Mr. Britain, and Mr. World. When we exercise, we deplete these glycogen stores, so eating carbs after working out replenishes them. Eating more carbs helped Taylor have more energy for his five weekly workouts, and it made his muscles feel more "full," he said.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Former Illinois lawmaker and gubernatorial candidate William “Sam” McCann abruptly pleaded guilty on Thursday to nine felony counts of wire fraud, money laundering and tax evasion, halting his federal corruption trial over misusing up to $550,000 in campaign contributions. The seven counts of wire fraud and single count of money laundering each carry a sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison. But a complex set of advisory guidelines before Lawless, who set sentencing for June 20, will likely yield a far shorter term. “Are you pleading guilty because you are in fact guilty?” Lawless asked. McCann's trial was repeatedly delayed.

For entertainment expenses like travel and eating out, however, he planned to use income from a part-time job and draw on his Social Security benefits. But there was one challenge with this plan: If Americans draw on Social Security before their full retirement age, then there's a limit to how high their taxable income can be before their Social Security benefits take a hit. The Social Security Administration says it will deduce $1 from benefit payments for every $2 one earns above the annual limit, which is $22,320 in 2024. "Because the driver can deduct his mileage from his side gig income and make below the earnings limit, his Social Security income will not be reduced," she said. "Many retirees often begin working side gigs, do freelance work, or receive other retirement income without knowing how other streams of income can impact how their Social Security income is taxed," she said.

BERLIN, June 1 (Reuters) - German prosecutors said on Thursday they had secured some items during a search of a reservoir in Portugal in the 16-year-old hunt for missing British girl Madeleine McCann which they would evaluate in coming days and weeks. "Whether some of the items actually relate to the Madeleine McCann case cannot yet be confirmed," the prosecutor's statement read. German prosecutors last year named Christian Brueckner an official suspect in McCann's disappearance. "The investigations here in Braunschweig against the 46-year old suspect will likely last a long time still," German prosecutors said. "He was very humble and didn't give me a bunch of excuses as to why he failed," Mac Nab says. Listening to McCann during the meeting, Mac Nab started to question his decision to let the recent hire leave the company altogether. "I felt he was genuine, authentic and hardworking, and my gut instinct kicked in during that conversation, it was a heat-of-the-moment decision," Mac Nab says. "I had leads on other opportunities that paid more, but I saw something special in VizyPay," McCann says.
