CNN —The Israeli military launched an operation on Monday against Gaza’s largest hospital facility, Al-Shifa, where thousands of people are sheltering. “Military vehicles are firing at the hospital buildings’ windows, and at anyone who is caught moving between the hallways,” Hamada Abdelhadi, a displaced Palestinian man seeking shelter at Al-Shifa, told CNN. A report from the United States Department of Agriculture and the Mississippi Forestry Commission found that at least 12.5 million trees died in the state after droughts last year. Mississippi experienced heavy droughts last year starting in June that were so bad that NASA could see the Mississippi River shrinking from space in September. During the droughts, experts say that pine beetles swept across the state taking out entire patches of decades-old pine trees. Haley’s exit, 51 days after the Iowa caucuses, makes 2024 one of the fastest-narrowing primary fields in recent history. In 2008, Senator John McCain secured the delegates for the Republican nomination on March 4, 61 days after the Iowa caucuses and about a month after that year’s Super Tuesday. No other competitive primary fields since 2004 narrowed to a final candidate within 100 days of the Iowa caucuses. In some instances, losing candidates have remained in the race even after the eventual nominee secured the required delegates.
