Meta, along with other major social media companies, faces growing scrutiny over the safety of young users on its platforms. But of the several lawsuits filed against Meta over child safety in recent years, none have focused as pointedly as Torrez’s case on alleged child sexual exploitation. In some cases, Torrez said he volunteered to take child abuse cases and to visit safe houses to conduct interviews with child victims. The New Mexico Attorney General's office alleges it found in an investigation of Facebook and Instagram accounts promoting sexualized images of minors. Meta also says it has removed hundreds of thousands of accounts, groups and devices for violating its child safety policies.

Dine Brands Global is considering an Applebee’s and IHOP combination, according to an earnings call on February 28. Dine Brands is the parent company of both restaurant chains. Because of the cost to build an Applebee’s, Dine Brands is “assembling a prototype” for another option. The revenue for the joint restaurants could double that of the standalone restaurants, the company said in the earnings call. Combination locations allowed these restaurants, such as Auntie Anne’s and Cinnabon, to expand past malls and into busier streetside spots.

Tony Rupp didn’t intend to become a fighter for the First Amendment. He was really just out for some pasta. In December 2016, Mr. Rupp, a Buffalo-area lawyer, was leaving Chef’s Restaurant, a popular Italian place in the city’s downtown, when he said he saw a black SUV — its lights off — bearing down on two women crossing the street. The driver came to a halt just short of the women, and then, disaster averted, kept going as Mr. Rupp shouted, “Turn your lights on, asshole!”Little did the lawyer know that the driver was a Buffalo police officer, Todd C. McAlister, who turned into the parking lot, followed Mr. Rupp and told him that he was being detained. After about a half-hour, which Mr. Rupp spent arguing with the police in the parking lot, he was stunned when the police handed him a ticket for violating the city’s noise ordinance, despite the argument occurring on a nonresidential street near a buzzing freeway.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities have exhumed the body of the wife of a famed former Tennessee sheriff more than a half-century after she was fatally shot in a still-unsolved killing. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed that it oversaw the exhumation of the body of Pauline Pusser on Thursday at Adamsville Cemetery. A TBI statement said the agency received a new tip that led agents to find that there was never an autopsy performed on Pauline Pusser's body. The Pusser car was hit 11 times. Buford Pusser spent six years as McNairy County sheriff beginning in 1964, and aimed to rid McNairy County of organized crime, from moonshiners to gamblers.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A man who sued Buffalo police after being ticketed for shouting at an officer to turn on his headlights can move forward with his legal action, an appeals court ruled. R. Anthony Rupp III, a civil rights attorney, said he did not intend to sue after his December 2016 encounter with two police officers. “You know you can be arrested for that,” McAlister told Rupp through an open window. Rupp responded that McAlister should not be driving after dark without his headlights activated and told the officer he almost caused an accident. McAlister then “got out of his vehicle and told Rupp he was detained,” the lawsuit said.

Roark Capital is buying Subway, ending the sandwich chain's more than five decades of family ownership and marking a new era for the struggling company. Subway dwarfs all of them by number of restaurants, and brings in more annual sales than all but Dunkin'. Through holding company Inspire Brands, Roark owns Dunkin', Baskin-Robbins, Sonic, Arby's, Buffalo Wild Wings and Jimmy John's. Roark plans to keep Subway as a separate entity within its portfolio, Subway CEO John Chidsey told the Journal.

NASA said "the date adjustment deconflicts visiting spacecraft traffic at the space station as NASA and Boeing work together to achieve flight readiness." Scrutinizing Starliner's parachutes and software are the two most time-consuming issues NASA and Boeing are dealing with ahead of the crewed flight test, NASA's commercial spaceflight director Phil McAlister said on Monday. Boeing developed Starliner under a roughly $4.2 billion fixed-price NASA contract awarded in 2014, which includes six operational Starliner missions. NASA has a similar contract with SpaceX, whose rival Crew Dragon capsule has flown six crewed flights for the agency since 2020. Illustrating difficulties Boeing faces on fixed-price contract programs, the company's Starliner contract has swelled to roughly $4.5 billion, and setbacks with the spacecraft have cost Boeing nearly $900 million since 2019.
