LIMA, Peru (AP) — Clad in a yellow vest, little Efruz balances himself on the front of the surfboard as waves foam around him and his companion as they skim over the Pacific waters off Peru. Efruz is a 4-year-old Jack Russell terrier and he is a common sight these hot days of the Southern Hemisphere summer. “He loves the sea,” says his owner, Mauro Canella, a surfing instructor at the beach in San Bartolo, a district 50 kilometers (30 miles) from downtown Lima. And they are not the only dog-human duo surfing the waves off San Baartolo. As happens to all surfers, dog and owner occasionally are tumbled into the water when they fail to negotiate a wave.

The new Argentine leader is closer politically and personally to former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and has invited him to his inauguration. Hong Kong CNN —Business leaders in China are under immense pressure, as the country’s leader Xi Jinping intensifies a regulatory crackdown on companies and strengthens its control of the economy. They face rising risks, including the possibility of police raids and detentions of staff, in the world’s second largest economy. A former banker, he has invested in a series of Chinese companies since 2000 and brought their shares to the public markets in mainland China and Hong Kong. No end in sightThe crackdown this year has spooked the business community in China, but it is not unfamiliar. NO ARCHIVES Acquire Licensing RightsRABAT, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Moroccan archaeologists said on Friday they uncovered a Roman-era site in Rabat containing a port district, a bath and a cemetery dating back to the second century. The Roman-era bath spans over 2000 square meters (21,527 square feet) resembling imperial counterparts in Rome, he said. Archaeologists also found a second century headless statue of a Roman deity, he said, noting that when ancient Moroccans adopted Christianity around the fifth century it was a common practice to behead statutes representing Roman gods. The newly uncovered monuments are an extension of a nearby Roman-era site and tourist attraction, Chellah, where the Muslim Marinide dynasty built a fortified necropolis in the 13th century.

The far-right former army captain was already the subject of police probes before and during his four years in office. But his efforts to undermine faith in Brazil's voting system, which culminated in a Jan. 8 insurrection by thousands of his supporters in Brasilia, have only added to his problems. Bolsonaro has repeatedly denied breaking any laws, and calls allegations against him a witch hunt by his political opponents. Among the legal headaches now facing Bolsonaro:BARRED FROM OFFICE TILL 2030In June, Brazil's federal electoral court (TSE) barred Bolsonaro from public office until 2030 for his conduct during last year's election. Last month, after months in jail, Cid agreed to cooperate with the federal police and was freed from behind bars.

[1/4] Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro speaks with the media as he leaves the Federal Police headquarters after testifying about the January 8 riots, in Brasilia, Brazil, October 18, 2023. On Tuesday, Gama, the rapporteur of the inquiry, had recommended that Bolsonaro should face charges of criminal association, political violence, disrupting the democratic order and an attempted coup d'état. The inquiry has no power to punish Bolsonaro or his allies but can issue recommendations for prosecutors to file criminal or civil charges. The findings of the congressional inquiry only add to Bolsonaro's legal woes, which have grown since he begrudgingly stepped down last year. Mauro Cid was allegedly a key player in two high-profile criminal probes into Bolsonaro.
