CNN —US Men’s National Team head coach Gregg Berhalter had good news for fans on Friday, saying that star player Christian Pulisic is looking likely to play in the team’s round of 16 World Cup clash against the Netherlands on Saturday.
Pulisic revealed Thursday that he had suffered a “pelvic contusion” and Berhalter said the Chelsea forward is progressing well.
The USMNT is looking to progress to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002, but Berhalter said the team were not looking that far ahead.
“It’s literally one game at a time, one minute at a time,” he told reporters.

CNN —US Men’s National Team (USMNT) captain Christian Pulisic shone some light on his mystery injury on Thursday and allayed fears surrounding his fitness heading into Saturday’s huge round of 16 clash against the Netherlands.
“I didn’t get, like, hit in the balls,” he added.
It was very painful and that bone is there for a reason to protect you, I think, and I hit it well.
It would be a huge blow to the USMNT’s chances if the 24-year-old is forced to miss the match against the Netherlands.
CNN —US Men’s National Team (USMNT) forward Christian Pulisic has been taken to hospital due to an abdominal injury he suffered while scoring the game-winning goal for the United States in its crucial 1-0 win over Iran.
During post-match coverage, FOX Sports broadcaster Rob Stone provided an update on the condition of Pulisic, saying: “An update on his condition.
Pulisic lay injured on the pitch after scoring his side's opening goal and only goal during the match against Iran.
Pulisic soon re-entered the pitch, but was clearly still struggling with the knock.
As Group B runners-up, the United States will face Group A winners Netherlands on Saturday.
CNN —The US Men’s National Team (USMNT) was made to work hard for its place in the World Cup knockout stage, earning a tough 1-0 win over Iran in a nerve-racking Group B decider at Qatar 2022.
Christian Pulisic’s first-half goal was all that separated the two sides as the USMNT reached the round of 16 for the first time since 2014.
It certainly wasn’t pretty at times, in particular in the closing stages against Iran, but progressing through the group stage was the minimum expectation for this exciting young team.
There will be some concerns going into the knockout stages, though, after Pulisic suffered an abdominal injury while scoring the winner.
The USMNT had to battled hard for its place in the round of 16.
CNN —Mexican boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Álvarez has sent a warning to Lionel Messi, who he accused of disrespecting Mexico.
“Did you see Messi cleaning the floor with our shirt and flag???
?” Álvarez tweeted, apparently referencing a video in which Messi appears to kick a Mexico shirt that is on the floor during Argentina’s celebrations in the changing room.
There is no indication that Messi kicked the shirt intentionally, instead appearing to do it accidentally as he took off his football boots.
Canelo, don’t look for excuses or problems, surely you don’t know about football and what happens in a changing room.
Fortunately for them, the player who has become this generation’s talisman will be fit in time to play in the 2022 World Cup knockout stage, should Brazil qualify, after being diagnosed with an ankle sprain.
Now 30, this World Cup will likely be his best chance at lifting the trophy.
Group H’s other match pits Ghana against South Korea, with both teams desperate for a win to kickstart their World Cup campaigns.
In Ghana, Korea knows it faces a team with an abundance of quality in the final third, as the match against Portugal proved.

But just when it looked as though Germany was growing into the match, Spain found the breakthrough thanks to substitute Morata, who ran onto Jordi Alba’s low cross and poked the ball past Neuer.
Germany will know only a victory against Costa Rica will do – but even that might not be enough.
Finishing bottom of the group at Russia 2018, a tournament Germany went into as defending champion, was a historic low for the four-time World Cup winner.
But after that shock 2-1 defeat to Japan in its opening match, it is once again a distinct possibility.
That result means the match against Spain is do or die for Germany, as a defeat would confirm an early flight home from Qatar.
World Cup team camps have traditionally been somewhat strict, private affairs, but Spain head coach Luis Enrique has been taking an unconventional approach to passing the time behind closed doors.
In Group E’s other match, Japan knows victory over Costa Rica will guarantee its place in the knockout stages.
CNN —Yet another moment of Lionel Messi magic helped salvage Argentina’s World Cup hopes at Qatar 2022 as La Albiceleste secured a much-needed victory over Mexico.
The 2-0 win certainly wasn’t pretty, with Argentina struggling to create many clear-cut chances against a stubborn Mexico team that itself also offered very little threat going forward.
Messi came to the fore just after the hour mark to save his team, as he has done on countless occasions, finding the bottom corner of the net with a stunning strike from outside of the box.
Though a win against Mexico on Saturday was crucial, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni will also have wanted to see a much-improved performance as proof that the loss to Saudi Arabia was nothing more than a blip.
However, that performance never materialized with Argentina looking stale and lifeless for much of the game.
CNN —Brazil superstar Neymar sprained his right ankle in his side’s opening World Cup match – a 2-0 win over Serbia – on Thursday, Brazilian team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar confirmed last night in a post-game press conference.
Lasmar said that the team had already begun treating Neymar and would have more clarity in 24 to 48 hours.
Neymar is playing in his third World Cup.
Brazil began this World Cup as the favorite to win its first World Cup since 2002, with a 20% chance of winning the tournament according to Nielsen’s Gracenote, after losing just three times in 50 matches since it was eliminated from the 2018 World Cup by Belgium.
Neymar will face a race to be back to full fitness by the time Brazil plays Switzerland in its next Group G match on November 28.
