CNN —Four ISIS leaders were killed as a result of raid in western Iraq late last month, the US military said Friday. US Central Command identified the four leaders as Ahmad Hamid Husayn Abd-al-Jalil al-Ithawi, who was responsible for all ISIS operations in Iraq; Abu Hammam, who oversaw all operations in the western part of the country; Abu-‘Ali al-Tunisi, who oversaw technical development, and Shakir Abud Ahmad al-Issawi, who was responsible for military operations in western Iraq. The US, in partnership with Iraqi security forces, conducted a raid in western Iraq on August 29, killing more than a dozen ISIS operatives who were “armed with numerous weapons, grenades, and explosive ‘suicide’ belts,” CENTCOM previously said. Amid the heightened tensions in the Middle East, Iraq has postponed announcing an end-date for the US-led military coalition’s presence in the country, CNN previously reported. CNN —The Justice Department said on Thursday that it has made “substantial progress” in finalizing an agreement with Boeing to plead guilty to defrauding the US government, but more time is needed to work out the remaining details. The Justice Department and the plane maker had planned to file the final terms of the agreement with a federal court in Texas on Friday. But, prosecutors said Thursday in a status report that they “will not be able to finalize the agreement by tomorrow” and that the earliest it will happen is next week. The agreement stipulates that Boeing will have to operate under the oversight of an independent monitor, a person to be chosen by the government, for a period of three years. But that oversight and the fine did not satisfy the families of victims, according to one of their attorneys.

Crew members haven’t been able to get off the ship for a variety of reasons. Bennett’s email identifies the eight eligible crew members, which include a cook, a fitter and an oiler. As part of the deal, those crew members will not need to stay in Baltimore. But with the new agreement Wednesday night, the eight crew members would be able to leave the country before they’re deposed. But it’s still unclear exactly when the eight crew members – and the rest of their colleagues – will be able to leave.

CNN —An attorney discipline judge in California has rejected a request from ex-Trump election lawyer John Eastman to reactivate his law license following her recent recommendation that he be disbarred, which rendered him unable to practice law for now. Judge Yvette Roland, who oversees state bar proceedings in California, recommended in March that Eastman be disbarred for his election subversion efforts. The California Supreme Court will ultimately decide whether to endorse or reject Roland’s recommendation to disbar Eastman. “Eastman failed to uphold his primary duty of honesty and breached his ethical obligations by presenting falsehoods to bolster his legal arguments,” Roland wrote in her opinion recommending he be disbarred. He also was indicted last month in Arizona in connection with efforts to overturn the 2020 election, along with more than a dozen other Trump allies, including Mark Meadows and Rudy Giuliani.

“The Proposed Gag Order is nothing more than an obvious attempt by the Biden Administration to unlawfully silence its most prominent political opponent,” Trump’s attorneys said in the response. Trump is asking US District Judge Tanya Chutkan to deny the prosecutor’s request for a gag order entirely, requesting a hearing on the matter. Chutkan, an Obama appointee overseeing the criminal case in Washington, DC, hasn’t yet made a decision on the request for a gag order. Justice Department prosecutors previously said a limited gag order on the former president is needed to protect the integrity of the trial in March. Trump’s legal team also responded to prosecutors request for a court order that would block them from polling potential jurors for the case without the court’s approval first.

Washington CNN —The three US military service secretaries went on the offensive against Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville over his ongoing hold on senior military nominations in an interview with CNN on Tuesday, saying he is aiding communist and autocratic regimes, and being used by adversaries like China against the US. “That is what the American people truly need to understand.”“It is just unprecedented to be attacking apolitical general officers and flag officers in this way. But placing a blanket hold on all general and flag officer nominees, who as apolitical officials have traditionally been exempt from the hold process, is unfair to these military leaders and their families. It is time to lift this dangerous hold and confirm our senior military leaders.”“Chuck Schumer could confirm all of the service chiefs in one day—but he refuses. Wormuth said Tuesday that she’s worried the hold will impact morale among lower-ranking officers.

The Justice Department has asked for a mid-December trial date. “This extraordinary case presents a serious challenge to both the fact and perception of our American democracy,” Trump’s defense team wrote in the filing. “The Court now presides over a prosecution advanced by the administration of a sitting President against his chief political rival, himself a leading candidate for the Presidency of the United States.”Trump’s defense team said the court should “withdraw the current order setting trial” and “postpone” consideration of a new trial date. In a separate filing earlier Monday, Trump’s defense team and the special counsel’s office said July 18 would be an agreeable date for the first appearance before Judge Aileen Cannon on classified information procedures. While Trump entered his not guilty plea in the case on June 13, his aide and co-defendant Walt Nauta was only able to enter his not guilty plea last week due in part to delays in retaining a Florida counsel.
