A healthcare worker takes the temperature of COVID-19 patient Troy Burrows as healthcare personnel treat people with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at a hospital in Lakin, Kansas, U.S., November 19, 2020. Miller, Kearny’s chief medical officer - who doubles as the county health officer - called around to larger hospitals in search of an ICU bed. COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are spiking nationally. Shortages of staff, rather than beds, are the biggest single problem in many hospitals, the health officials said. When he died, “the family did not want to admit this patient had died of COVID, because they didn’t believe COVID kills people,” she said.

Rumors around a Donald Trump presidential memoir, and which publishing house will buy it, are swirling. A potential Trump memoir poses a big reward to whoever publishes it, along with a potentially large risk, executives and agents said. That book ended up getting published by Skyhorse Publishing, which several publishing workers cited as a possible home for a Trump memoir. Several publishing workers indicated that they anticipated there would be some form of collective action if the Trump memoir was acquired. Several publishing workers said they saw publishing Trump's memoir as a line in the sand that a larger house may not want to cross.

SEE NEW POSTSCDC upgrades warning on cruise ship travel to highest risk level possible The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Saturday raised its warning against cruise trip travel amid the pandemic, recommending “all people avoid travel on cruise ships.” The new travel notice comes 3 weeks after the CDC issued a “Conditional Sailing Order” for cruise ships traveling within U.S. waters, which lifted an eight-month no-sail order and gave cruise lines the green light to set sail again. In new guidelines, it has classified cruise ship travel as “Level 4: Very High Level of COVID-19” and it’s asking that people avoid cruise ship travel, including river cruises, worldwide. “Cruise passengers are at increased risk of person-to-person spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, and outbreaks of COVID-19 have been reported on cruise ships,” read the CDC’s updated travel notice for cruise ship travel. But for those still considering cruises despite the risk, the CDC suggests social distancing, hand washing and mask wearing. “Passengers who decide to go on a cruise should get tested 3-5 days after your trip AND stay home for 7 days after travel.

WASHINGTON — General Motors abandoned President Trump’s battle to nullify California’s fuel economy rules meant to curb global warming, the strongest sign yet that corporate America is moving on from Mr. Trump and adapting to an incoming Democratic administration. The company also signaled that it was ready to work with President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr., who has promised swift action to reduce climate-warming emissions in the auto sector. “President-elect Biden recently said, ‘I believe that we can own the 21st century car market again by moving to electric vehicles.’ We at General Motors couldn’t agree more,” Mary Barra, the General Motors chief executive, wrote in a letter Monday to leaders of some of the nation’s largest environmental groups. Ms. Barra said her company, one of the largest automakers in the world, was withdrawing its support for Trump administration litigation that seeks to strip California of its ability to set its own, strict fuel economy standards, and she urged Toyota and Fiat Chrysler to do the same.

General Motors is withdrawing from litigation led by the Trump administration against California over the state's right to set its own fuel economy and emissions regulations, distancing itself from President Donald Trump. In a letter Monday to environmental leaders, GM CEO Mary Barra said the company's decision to withdraw from the litigation is effective immediately. "We believe the ambitious electrification goals of the President-elect, California, and General Motors are aligned to address climate change by drastically reducing automobile emissions," Barra wrote. By withdrawing, GM is showing support for the incoming administration while distancing itself from Trump, who has publicly praised and condemned automakers during his tenure as commander in chief. Biden is widely expected to drop the litigation against California and allow the state to set its own standards.
