Other VP contenders at the weekend meeting included Stefanik, Scott and North Dakota Gov. This may help to explain why some influential Trump donors are especially wary of Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Rubio, Stefanik, Scott and Burgum have all privately been pitched to Trump as top prospects with close ties to top business leaders. Those ties could bolster Trump's fundraising operation if one of them is chosen as his running mate, according to people familiar with the matter. Burgum could even help to self-fund Trump's campaign, just as he did for his own Republican primary run for president.

If you had the opportunity to hear activist investor Nelson Peltz, the defeated candidate for the Disney board, you did not get a definitive answer, as much as I pressed. In my CNBC interview with Peltz on Thursday, he assured us that he would be back if Iger didn't deliver on his promises. Iger talked about the board's succession committee, which former Morgan Stanley CEO James Gorman and now Disney board member, is on. They're confident that they'll pick the right person at the right time," Iger said on CNBC . I most feared the blowout in Disney stock in a fit of pique and right now I am not seeing that.

New York CNN —The battle for the future of Disney is about to reach its epic conclusion. Nelson Peltz, founder and chief executive officer of Trian Fund Management, has continually criticized Disney CEO Bob Iger. The forces that have tormented Iger will be banished to the shadows, exiled outside of the Magic Kingdom for now. DisneyDisney has struggled to return to the lofty box office records of 2019 — and that may have helped open the door for its recent troubles with activist Nelson Peltz. Just four years ago, the studio had seven billion-dollar films, which contributed to a global box office haul of more than $13.2 billion. Sony produced and distributed "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which made $1.9 billion, although Disney's Marvel Studios did serve as a co-producer. "People go to watch a movie or a show to be entertained," Peltz said in recent interview with The Financial Times. Peltz has also taken particular issue with Disney's failed succession plans and what he's described as a disjointed streaming strategy.

Nelson Peltz's Trian Fund Management withheld its votes from Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger when voting its shares in the bitter proxy battle the asset management firm is waging against the entertainment giant, according to sources who monitor the situation. However, it is counter to Trian's proxy recommendations, and it doesn't mesh with the public statements Peltz has made about wanting to work together with management if he is elected to the Disney board. In recent weeks, Disney has stepped up its attacks on Trian and Peltz. "Disney is stupid because I'm not trying to fire Bob Iger, I want to help him," Peltz recently told the Financial Times. The Disney board meeting will be held April 3 and Trian could change its vote between now and then.

A toxicology report later showed that Chao had a blood-alcohol concentration of .233, the Blanco County Sheriff's Office said in its report. Chao drowned after friends and rescue workers tried without success to get the 50-year-old shipping executive out of the submerged vehicle. "Chao, who is still on the phone with Keinan, tells Keinan in a [calm] voice her feet are under water," the report said. "Chao told Keinan the water was rising and she was going to die, and said, 'I love you' to Keinan prior to the vehicle going under water." Both deputies entered the pond and tried repeatedly to locate Chao through the back door, "but were unable to," the report said.

As a Disney shareholder for the Club, Jim Cramer has decided to support activist investor Nelson Peltz's fight for seats on the board of the entertainment and theme parks giant. It means he's going to vote to put the Trian Partners founder Peltz and former Disney CFO Jay Rasulo on the Disney board. Jim believes Peltz and Rasulo will hold Disney's board and management accountable for making changes to fix the business and turn around the company's underperforming stock. "It is ridiculous to me that Netflix has crushed Disney," Jim said. As a subscriber to the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer, you will receive a trade alert before Jim makes a trade.

That's what makes the upcoming proxy battle between Disney and the activist investor Nelson Peltz so compelling. Peltz's Trian Partners investment firm oversees about $3 billion worth of Disney stock, including shares held by former Marvel Entertainment Chairman Ike Perlmutter. For its fiscal second quarter, Disney expects net additional subscribers to Disney+ between 5.5 million and 6 million, with domestic adding 7.5 million due to its agreement with Charter Communications, while international core subs decline modestly. Disney is getting closer and closer to achieving its first profitable DTC quarter, which it continues to expect in its fiscal fourth quarter. In the Experiences segment, Disney delivered record revenue, operating income, and operating margin in its fiscal first quarter.

Broadridge Financial Solutions , which provides proxy services for big corporations during boardroom brawls, could generate as much as $50 million in event-driven revenue from the Peltz-Disney war, according to Evercore ISI analyst David Togut. During Trian's 2017 proxy battle against Procter & Gamble, the consumer giant paid about $60 million to Broadridge for proxy service, Togut said. Evercore ISI said a company's retail investor base is the best representation for Broadridge's revenue. Since Disney has 81% of the retail shares P & G has, it estimated that Broadridge could make up to $50 million from the proxy war. Evercore ISI set an outperform rating on Broadridge and raised its 12-month price target to $230 from $226.

Mr. Perlmutter, who sold Marvel Entertainment to Disney in 2009, was pushed out of the company in March. Representatives for Mr. Peltz and Mr. Perlmutter did not respond to queries. “We have to obviously contend with them in some form,” Robert A. Iger, Disney’s chief executive, said about activist investors earlier on Wednesday at the DealBook Summit. I’m not going to get distracted by any of that.”Last year, Mr. Perlmutter agitated — from his perch inside Disney — for Mr. Peltz to join the board. Two chaotic years later, Disney fired Mr. Chapek and reinstated Mr. Iger as chief executive.

In its previous quarter, Disney recorded $2.65 billion in one-time charges and impairments, dragging the company to a rare quarterly net loss. Disney is also feeling pressure from activist investor Nelson Peltz, who is seeking to gain more control of the company's board. Perlmutter is one of the largest single shareholders in the company and has entrusted his stake in Disney to Peltz's Trian Fund Management. Activist investor Nelson Peltz may be intent on making sure Disney directors don't get that luxury. He tried earlier this year to get himself on the Disney board, only to be rebuffed by Iger and eventually walk away in February. Disney's board has also struggled to groom a successor to Iger, who has five times renewed his contract to stick around as CEO. Still, to sway Disney shareholders to vote for Peltz or other board members, Trian may need to push for specific ideas or financial engineering that Disney hasn't already articulated. If not, his next move could be a public fight to get himself and others on Disney's board.

“In some ways, the challenges are greater than I anticipated,” Iger told CNBC in a revealing interview last month. But under Iger 2.0, Disney has cultivated even more headaches for itself, including a morale crisis sparked by one surprisingly candid interview with CNBC on July 13. Naturally, the comments set off alarms within Disney General Entertainment Content, the division that operates Disney’s broadcast and cable networks. A few days after the Faber interview, Iger tried to smooth things over at an off-site meeting with senior managers. But Disney appears to be all-in on the boss, even though the sequel almost never lives up to the original.

Insider turned to Disney CEO Bob Iger's 2019 book for insight on how he navigates challenges. As Florida's largest attraction with more than 70,000 jobs, Walt Disney World is crucial to both the company and the state. During his first tenure at Disney, Iger orchestrated the $4 billion acquisition of Marvel without a single leak. Under predecessor Disney CEO Michael Eisner, board members said they worried that Marvel was "too edgy" and "would tarnish the Disney brand." File photo of Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Cheaper streaming options with unique programming were luring viewers, leaving Netflix in a tough spot as it raised prices. Paramount+, started in 2021, is joining forces with sister Showtime to widen its offerings. Disney, Paramount and WBD also operate cable and broadcast networks, and don’t specify what portion of the expense is allocated to streaming. Its subscribers, worth $136 a year in revenue apiece, are also more valuable than those of its rivals. Warner Bros Discovery on May 23 rebranded its streaming service as Max, which will include HBO programming along with Discovery’s reality TV shows.
Since returning as Disney CEO, Bob Iger has vanquished foes and dumped many of predecessor Bob Chapek's hires. But it's a supercharged Bob Iger who is really taking command. "If I'm inside Bob's head coming back, after the downfall of Bob Chapek, this is all about taking no prisoners," said Will Schutte, a high-level executive coach. Disney World is scheduled to host a major conference on gay rights in September, according to the Miami Herald. Even if he wants to be the Bob Iger of old he can't be.
The Walt Disney Company is looking to update its image. On Thursday, the company named Asad Ayaz as its first-ever chief brand officer, a position that will require the Disney vet to create a singular vision of the company for marketing campaigns. The company also recently rolled out its first wave of layoffs as it seeks to cut 7,000 jobs this year. On Wednesday, the company tapped Joe Earley to take over the role of president of direct-to-consumer for Disney Entertainment. Ayaz will continue as president of marketing for Walt Disney Studios, where he has overseen marketing and publicity for the studio's films and TV series, as well as Disney+, since 2018.
April 5 (Reuters) - Marvel Entertainment's former chairman Ike Perlmutter on Wednesday said he will hold on to his Disney (DIS.N) shares, a week after reports of his termination from the role. Reuters reported last Wednesday that Disney had laid off Perlmutter, 80, as part of a cost-cutting campaign. News of Perlmutter's termination had come after he supported activist shareholder Nelson Peltz's unsuccessful bid to obtain a seat on Disney's corporate board. "Trian CEO Nelson Peltz has a long history of improving shareholder returns at many leading consumer businesses," Perlmutter said in a public statement on Wednesday. According to the WSJ report from earlier in the day, he owns about 30 million shares of Disney, worth about $3 billion.
‘All they talk about is box office, box office,’ Ike Perlmutter, the former Marvel Entertainment chairman, said of Disney executives and Marvel Studios leadership. Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter says Walt Disney Co. fired him as chairman of Marvel Entertainment because he pushed Disney too aggressively to cut costs and ran afoul of the creative executives whom newly returned Chief Executive Robert Iger wants to empower. In a rare interview, the 80-year-old Mr. Perlmutter spoke to The Wall Street Journal about his dismissal from Disney last week, his relationship with Mr. Iger, and missteps he feels Disney has made in recent years.
