The artworks are newly on display at Lehmann Maupin in New York, marking Rawles’ first major solo exhibition on the East Coast. “If I’m upset and I get to go to the ocean, I do sit back and feel more connected to something larger when I’m there," the artist Calida Rawles told CNN. CNN —A spate of Quran-burning protests in Sweden and Denmark has caused angry demonstrations in Muslim-majority countries, heightened security fears at home and left both Scandinavian nations questioning whether they need to review their liberal laws on freedom of speech. But both countries signaled Sunday that they are exploring legal ways to prevent such protests, amid security and geopolitical concerns. While freedom of speech has long been a constitutional right in Sweden and Denmark, the scrapping of blasphemy laws was a more recent development. But neither country tightened their free speech laws in response to these attacks. “Sweden is right now the target of influence campaigns, supported by states and state-like actors, whose purpose is to harm Sweden and Swedish interests,” said Bohlin.

London CNN —A pair of unknown and “exceptionally rare” portraits by Rembrandt have been discovered in a private collection in the UK. Signed and dated 1635, the pictures are of an elderly husband and wife who were related to Rembrandt by marriage. In 1635, the year the portraits were painted, the subjects acquired a garden next to that of Rembrandt’s mother in Leiden. They then traveled to Warsaw, to the private collection of Count Vincent Potocki, before briefly entering the collection of Baron d’Ivry in Paris in 1820 and then James Murray, 1st Baron Glenlyon. They had never appeared in any of the Rembrandt literature of the 19th or 20h century, so they were completely unknown,” said Pettifer.

Lancaster said California has dramatically increased its efforts to identify hotspots since the Montecito mudslides. After the 2018 mudslides hit Montecito, the Los Angeles Times reported that debris basins above the community were undersized and hadn’t been sufficiently emptied.
