Companies Equinor ASA FollowBp Plc FollowWINNIPEG, Manitoba, May 31 (Reuters) - Norway's Equinor ASA (EQNR.OL) said on Wednesday that it will postpone its Bay du Nord Canadian offshore oil project for up to three years, due to rising costs. Ottawa backed Bay du Nord saying that it would produce relatively low emissions. "Bay du Nord is an important project for Equinor. "The (Bay du Nord) economics are positive but if you play around with costs and risk more, it's not going to be the best opportunity in their portfolio," he said. Bay du Nord would be so far from shore - 500 kilometers (311 miles) - that it falls in international waters.

TORONTO, May 8 (Reuters) - Canada's oil and gas producers shut down some production after Alberta was hit by an unprecedented wildfire season, although rain and cooler weather are expected to bring some relief on Monday. Canada is home to the world's third-largest reserves, and most of these are in northern Alberta's vast oil sands. NuVista Energy (NVA.TO) said on Monday it had temporarily shut in about 40,000 boepd as a precaution. In neighboring British Columbia, several communities remained under evacuation orders after heavy rain last week and flood warnings stayed in place. [1/2] Emergency crews work to clean up the largest U.S. crude oil spill in nearly a decade, following the leak at the Keystone pipeline operated by TC Energy in rural Washington County, Kansas, U.S., December 9, 2022. REUTERS/Drone BaseCompanies TC Energy Corp FollowDec 20 (Reuters) - TC Energy Corp (TRP.TO) has submitted its plan to restart the Keystone pipeline to U.S. regulators, a source familiar with the matter said on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after the line ruptured in the worst oil spill in the United States in nine years. TC Energy did not answer questions about when it hopes to restart the line or what caused the incident. More than 400 people are involved in the cleanup, including TC workers, pipeline regulators, state and local officials and the EPA. "It's pretty straightforward and PHMSA should have enough information," Kuprewicz said, adding that PHMSA could allow TC to restart the segment within the day.
Canada's oil sands hold the world's third-largest crude reserves and the long-life projects can produce for decades. Last week Suncor agreed to buy Teck Resources' (TECKb.TO) Fort Hills stake for about C$1 billion ($737 million) in cash as "part of our Base Plant mine replacement strategy". Other acquisition targets could include French major TotalEnergies' (TTEF.PA) stake in Fort Hills and its 50% share of the Surmont thermal oil sands project, Oberstoetter added. Last month TotalEnergies said it plans to spin off its Canadian oil sands assets into a separate company. The Fort Hills deal is the latest move by Calgary-based Suncor to focus on its core oil sands business.
