Congress likely won't weigh in on the growing threat of election subversion in the states. That's in addition to controversial GOP-backed efforts with highly dubious methodology to review already-audited election results in places like Maricopa County, Arizona that could be replicated in other states. 4 set standards to protect election officials and election results from partisan manipulation. I think that would be a favor to election officials. While the chances of Congress overturning the results of a future presidential election are probably slim, the lack of clarity and relatively low bar to objecting election results leaves the law more open to partisan manipulation and abuse.

I am a Republican, a two-time Donald Trump voter and a resident of Maricopa County, Arizona. Although I didn’t believe the 2020 election was stolen, there were many voters on my side who did. They hired a company to lead the audit that has little to no experience in election audits and has a predisposed belief that the election was stolen. The audit of the Maricopa County elections may have been intended to accomplish that in the beginning, but it has definitely fallen far short of that goal. I don’t believe it will now convince anyone who isn’t already convinced either that the election was stolen or that the election was unbiased, thorough or fair.

The Justice Department has expressed concerns that federal laws are possibly being violated during the audit process. But there's serious risk that comes both with the Justice Department jumping in — and not. Federal officials have, however, already cautioned Arizona officials about the audit. Many Arizona state officials have criticized the audit, saying that it is undermining the US electoral process. The cybersecurity firm has been under intense scrutiny because it has never conducted an election audit before this one.

Former President Donald Trump plans to reprise his set of greatest hits as he prepares to return to the rally circuit: going after Dr. Anthony Fauci and harping on his grievances about his 2020 election loss, according to Axios and CNN, respectively. Trump has been laying low since leaving the White House, and tried running a short-lived blog after being de-platformed from social media. Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano is promoting an "Audit the Vote" campaign. The campaign's founders have promoted conspiracy theories about QAnon, "PizzaGate", and the 2020 election. "Our goal is to expose the fraud that occurred in Pennsylvania in the 2020 election so that we can re-establish confidence in our election system moving forward." According to a joint statement from federal and state election security officials, the 2020 vote was "the most secure in American history." While such false claims have been used to push for an Arizona-style audit in Pennsylvania, not all Republicans are on board.

Trump is increasingly fixated on overturning the 2020 election result, advisors reportedly said. Telling Trump he lost is like 'p------ into the wind,' one advisor told The Washington Post. Nearly all the 2020 election advisors who spoke to the paper said they regarded his fixation on litigating the election as a waste of time, but that he kept returning to the topic nonetheless. When advisors leave challenging the 2020 election out of their drafts for his speeches, he goes off-script, ad-libbing about the count in various states, The Post reported. The Office of Donald J. The controversial bill removes voters from the state's Permanent Early Voting List, a method that voters used en masse in the 2020 election. A county judge in Georgia ruled Friday that 2020 election absentee ballots in the state’s most populous county can be unsealed and reviewed by a group of electors claiming Fulton County election workers counted fraudulent ballots. The group alleges in court documents, according to affidavits from four election auditors, that there were “counterfeit ballots” in Fulton County “counted and recounted” by officials. Fulton County, which includes metro Atlanta, has been a focus of Trump conspiracy theories. This is different from the GOP-led audit in Maricopa County, Arizona — that state’s largest county, which also helped Biden flip the state. That audit has been rife with controversy, including actions of the private company hired by Arizona Senate Republicans to recount millions of ballots from the 2020 election.

A Georgia judge will allow absentee ballots from the 2020 election to be unsealed to have them examined for possible fraud. A former GOP state attorney general slammed the Maricopa County, Arizona, election recount. "They lost, and they can't get over it," Grant Woods, now a Democrat, told the AP. A former Arizona Republican attorney general said that the people running Maricopa County's much-criticized ballot recount "can't get over" losing the state in 2020. Arizona election auditors say the Senate decided to "indefinitely defer" voter canvassing weeks ago. The Justice Department raised concerns earlier this week about Maricopa County's election audit. Republican Sen. Karen Fann responded to the letter Friday, assuring the security of the audit site. Workers are conducting the recount of presidential election votes in Arizona's Maricopa County using sloppy and inconsistent methods, say observers and critics of the process. Some participants appear to be searching for evidence on the basis of conspiracy theories, according to reports from the counting site. Observers from the office of Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs were granted access to the recount for a week. It's another sign that auditors are working to verify conspiracy theories alleging that ballots are fake, observers say. Rep. Elise Stefanik publicly supports a controversial GOP-backed election recount in Arizona. Rep. Elise Stefanik, who is vying for a top position in House leadership, publicly backed the unofficial and highly controversial GOP-sanctioned recount of ballots in Maricopa County, Arizona in an interview on Steve Bannon's podcast. The GOP-controlled Arizona state Senate has hired Cyber Ninjas, a private Florida firm, to conduct a hand recount of paper ballots cast in the 2020 election, an exercise that further legitimizes top Republican's false claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election. The voters in Arizona and the state Senate in Arizona pursued this audit, I fully support it. Stefanik is a leading contender to replace Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming as the House Republican Conference Chair, the third-highest ranking House Republican after Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Minority Whip Steve Scalise.

A state judge has halted a GOP effort to audit the vote in Maricopa County, Arizona. Democrats sued to prevent the audit, noting it is led by a man who promoted pro-Trump conspiracy theories. An Arizona judge has suspended work over the weekend on a Republican-led effort to examine ballots from the 2020 election. Arizona Democrats had filed a lawsuit on Thursday seeking to halt an audit, dismissing it as a partisan effort to validate false claims of election fraud. Government emails and documents exclusively obtained by Insider reveal an internal fight within the Trump administration over whether to create the poll worker recruitment website HelpAmericaVote.gov. The White House's Office of Management and Budget initially rejected the Election Assistance Commission's request to create the website. EAC officials immediately resubmitted their HelpAmericaVote.gov request. Adequate numbers of in-person election poll workers were essential to monitoring and assisting record numbers of voters during the 2020 elections. The EAC disputes OMB's assertions that its HelpAmericaVote.gov request fell below current standards.

In the absence of clear federal guidance, the vaccine rollout has devolved into a patchwork response that varies by state, experts say. Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administration's coronavirus vaccine initiative, predicted 20 million Americans would get a coronavirus shot by year's end. On a call with reporters on Wednesday, Warp Speed officials acknowledged that the rollout was running behind schedule. Local health officials have been tasked with coordinating vaccination timelines while caring for sick patients. When Warp Speed launched in May, the initiative aspired to deliver 300 million doses by the end of 2020.

I started going every week, then every other day, and sometimes more. When fitness classes shut down in the pandemic, I bought myself resistance bands and a mini-trampoline. Exercise took the sadness and anger and powerlessness I felt about these four years and fueled it into something productive. I volunteered more, I focused on producing film and TV projects that had some social purpose, and eventually I started to work at The Times. Maybe you, like me, were one of the millions of voters who had skipped midterm elections but turned out in 2018.

"We are glad but not surprised that the audit of the state's voting machines was an unqualified success," Raffensperger, a Republican, said in a press release. "Election security has been a top priority since day one of my administration." The state of Georgia announced Tuesday that an official audit of its voting machines found no evidence of fraud or foul play during the 2020 elections. Raffensperger said that a lab certified by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, Pro V&V, used forensic techniques to inspect Dominion Voting Systems voting machines. Despite an acknowledgement that Biden won, Trump has nonetheless continued to challenge the integrity of the voting process without evidence.
