There’s another connection between Canada, asthma and my family — and it’s a somewhat accidental one. Unfortunately, the challenges that my mom faced getting asthma medication persisted. There were times that my mother didn’t fill her prescriptions for her asthma medication out of concern over the cost. Research shows that if you have a parent with asthma, you have a 25% likelihood of developing asthma yourself. Still, I remain vigilant because there is no cure for asthma and my family is so susceptible to its ravages.

The team, which will be renamed, will begin play next season in the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, home of one of the Smiths’ other teams, the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association. Salt Lake City’s metropolitan area is less than half the size of Phoenix’s; Salt Lake City is the 29th-largest media market while Phoenix is the 11th largest. But the league’s decision was less about the size of Salt Lake City and more about its demographics. Like Phoenix, Salt Lake City is one of the country’s fastest-growing cities. But in Utah, a thriving tech industry has attracted an influx of young workers with disposable incomes.

Read previewResearchers have warned that Canadian "super pigs" could soon invade the US, potentially causing millions of dollars in damage — and four states in particular are especially at risk. The researchers used data from GPS collars on feral pigs to follow their movement patterns and determine their invasion potential. Rodger Mallison/Fort Worth Star-Telegram/Tribune News Service/Getty ImagesBrook called the super pigs an "environmental train wreck." According to USDA estimates, feral pigs already cause $2.5 billion worth of damage to US agriculture annually. So, regardless of what you've heard, it's unlikely you can shoot your way out of a super pig invasion.

Climate change is stretching the length of time parts of the Far North go without sea ice, which polar bears rely on to hunt their preferred prey: blubbery, calorie-rich seals. When the ice melts in summer, the bears move onto land and face two options. They can rest and slow down to a state approaching hibernation, or they can forage for alternative food like berries, bird eggs and small land animals. Scientists tracking 20 polar bears in Manitoba, below the Arctic Circle at the southern end of the animals’ range, found that the option the polar bears chose didn’t make much difference. Scientists estimate that, going forward, there will be five to 10 more days without sea ice each decade.

In the aftermath of that storm, safety experts offered advice on how people can stay safe if they are stuck in their vehicles. First, do not leave your car, experts said. If you run out of water, drink melted snow, Dr. Mitchell said. Drive slowly to avoid skidding, and note that it takes longer to decelerate in icy road conditions, according to AAA. CNN —The Victorian dress in the Maine antique mall was unlike anything Sara Rivers Cofield had seen before. Rivers Cofield had no idea that the dress she bought in December 2013 would unravel a mystery a decade later. Rivers Cofield was baffled, she told CNN. An archeologist found a silk dress from the 1800s with a hidden pocket concealing a secret code. "It was a beautiful sort of rust, metallic, bronze silk dress," she told Business Insider, one she'd seen at the shop for years. "For the first time in history, information about the weather could travel faster than the weather itself," Chan wrote. While it's tempting to think Bennet was the owner of the paper, it's not necessarily the case, Rivers Cofield said. The purple-pink streak of light indicative of Steve is shown in this image captured by Canadian photographer Neil Zeller. “It can eventually migrate south … toward the equator side of aurora and form a Steve,” Lach said. A Steve will always appear alongside an aurora, Lach and Zeller said, but not all auroras include a Steve. The Steve phenomenon is most likely to be captured around the equinoxes in the spring and fall, according to Zeller and Lach. In Canada, the wild pigs roaming Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba pose a new threat. Wild pigs already cause around $2.5 billion in damage to U.S. crops every year, mostly in southern states like Texas. Eradication of wild pigs is no longer possible in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Brook said. “The question is: What will be done about it?”Brook said Montana has been the most serious about keeping wild pigs out. Most Canadians drive short distances to work, meaning that public charging is mainly necessary for longer-haul travellers, Breton said. A rural Canadian town gave its residents a type of universal basic income for three years. The study can still teach us lessons about the benefits of universal basic income, an expert says. AdvertisementAdvertisementFor four years in the late 1970s, Canada's Manitoba province ran a program called the Manitoba Basic Annual Income Experiment, or MINCOME. It was a guaranteed annual income program, which typically channels funds to people based on their income. Families with no income from other sources received payments that put them at 60% of the annual income, considered the cut-off for being low-income.
