Westend61 | Westend61 | Getty ImagesNew York just adopted a pay transparency ruleNew York on Sunday became the latest state to adopt a pay transparency law. The pay transparency movement is relatively new. Fifty-six percent are more likely to apply for a company — even if they don't recognize the company name — if the salary range is listed, Indeed found. For one, pay transparency may lower overall wages of the broader population of employees, even while raising them for the "inequitably underpaid," Obloj and Zenger said. 'There's still plenty to negotiate' beyond salaryOf course, applicants aren't necessarily beholden to the salary or the pay range posted on a job ad, Woodruff-Santos said.

Marco Vdm | E+ | Getty ImagesThe wage gap costs women in the U.S. about $1.6 trillion a year, a new report finds. Women earned 78 cents for every dollar that men made in 2022, according to National Partnership for Women and Families. Forty-two percent of the wage gap is the result of occupational segregation, which was exacerbated by the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Labor has found. To that point, half of U.S. adults said women being treated differently by employers contributes to the pay gap, the Pew Research Center found. That pay scale worsens for each major racial or ethnic group in the country, with white female workers paid 74 cents to the dollar; Black female workers, 66 cents; and Latina female workers, 52 cents.

Marilyn researched online and learned the University of Kansas Health System has a special medical clinic for adults with Down syndrome. The clinic Marilyn found is in Kansas City, Kansas, 80 miles northwest of the family’s cattle farm in central Missouri. A directory published by the Global Down Syndrome Foundation lists just 15 medical programs nationwide that are housed outside of children’s hospitals and that accept Down syndrome patients who are 30 or older. But she has felt treated like a child by other health care providers, who have spoken to her parents instead of to her during appointments. Advocates and clinicians say it’s crucial for health care providers to communicate as much as possible with patients who have disabilities.

I put ChatGPT to the test for a situation that many workers find stressful: asking for a raise. But can ChatGPT help you get a raise? I started simple: I told ChatGPT "ask my boss for a raise" to see what response that would yield. ChatGPT then gave me a very similar list of preparation steps but also tacked on a brief script template. Career coaches Esther Leonard and Mandi Woodruff-Santos told me ChatGPT's answers didn't seem obviously AI-generated and that a person could probably get a raise if they followed those steps and the script template.

Credit card companies may be targeting consumers with great credit with a host of new perks recently, but CreditCards.com warns against falling for 0% balance transfer fee offers. In a study looking at offers from 37 lenders, the site found offers to waive these fees for as many as 21 months on balance transfer cards. "After the CARD Act, we thought zero percent balance transfer offers would just go away," Linda Sherry, director of national priorities for Consumer Action, told the site. Another way they've compensated for keeping the waiver alive is by nixing the usual $50-$75 balance transfer fee caps. CreditCards.com's survey found 12 cards offer the fee waiver for six months, three for a year and seven for 15 months.
