CNN —Walking into the Lion Cafe, in Tokyo’s Shibuya district, the first thing one notices is the seating. “Meikyoku kissa is a place that plays classical music, where customers can listen to music, have a drink and relax,” says Naoya Yamadera, the current manager of the Lion Cafe. The cafe has more than 10,000 classical music CDs and records. Many people are not familiar with classical music, so I’d like them to get used to it in places like here,” says Yamadara. Dan dan noodlesIt’s nearly impossible to dislike China’s soul-comforting dan dan mian, or dan dan noodles. Dan dan noodles are named after the way they were originally sold more than 100 years ago – on a dan dan, a carrying pole, by street hawkers. Some think dan dan noodles should contain a dry mix of noodles, made with minced meat, chopped scallions, spices, crushed peanuts and various sauces. Others disagree, preferring dan dan noodles in a hot, spicy, salty and nutty broth albeit with similar ingredients. Similar to Hainanese chicken rice, the Wenchang version is often served with yellow chicken fat rice and chicken soup.

CNN —“Goodbye, Kai Tak, and thank you.”It’s been 25 years since Richard Siegel, Hong Kong’s then-director of civil aviation, bid farewell and turned off the lights at Hong Kong Kai Tak International Airport. The retired facility was rechristened as Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, the largest cruise terminal in town, in 2013. Daryl Chapman, a teacher and aviation photographer from Britain who has lived in Hong Kong since 1987, spent countless hours photographing the amazing scenes of large aircraft swooping in over the Hong Kong skyline. “Kai Tak was very different to most international airports because it was right in the city,” recalls Chapman. It served Hong Kong for 73 years and was something of a city symbol, known to travelers worldwide.
