And in an age where social media and streaming platforms have fragmented the cultural landscape, does the song of the summer even exist anymore? “It’s not like people were walking around in 1925 and saying, ‘You think that’s the summer song this year? New York Magazine’s 1995 Summer Fun issue devoted an article to examining the summer song as a unifying force — per the magazine, a summer song should be 1) released in the summer, 2) uncomplicated and 3) unforgettable. MTV’s Video Music Awards introduced a song of summer category in 2013, with One Direction’s “Best Song Ever” nabbing the inaugural award. Even as the song of the summer has become increasingly debatable, the idea that a single song could encapsulate a given summer continues to have a hold over our culture.

CNN —Hugely popular US television shows like “Shark Tank,” “Survivor” and even “American Idol” are based on hit programs from foreign countries. What better way to shake things up — and spark public interest — than having Biden and Trump spend a weekend together with TV cameras capturing almost every move? That means there’s a possibility that Trump could be sentenced to prison or home confinement for an extended period of time. If that were to happen, the show would be a no-go — unless Biden were to agree to spend the weekend filming in Mar-A-Lago, if Trump should get sentenced to house arrest. If the former president were to get hard time, Biden would have to be game to spend a weekend in Trump’s prison block.

Another lawsuit accused his son Christian Combs of sexual assault, and Sean Combs is accused of aiding and abetting. Lampros claims that Combs raped her after she “pleaded with Mr. Combs to stop.” “She was nude, sore, and confused” the next morning, according to the lawsuit. CNN —Sean “Diddy” Combs has been accused of sexual assault in a new lawsuit filed on Tuesday by Crystal McKinney, a former model and winner of MTV’s 1998 Model Mission competition show. McKinney “felt confused but hopeful that Combs would fulfill his promises to help her career,” and Combs invited her to his recording studio later that night, the complaint continues. In the bathroom, Combs “began kissing her without her consent” and later “forced her to perform oral sex on him,” according to the complaint. “As her consciousness returned, Plaintiff realized that she had been sexually assaulted by Combs,” the complaint reads. One of the six suits names Combs as a defendant but was was brought against Combs’ son, Christian Combs.

The cable company Altice USA is said to be weighing a potential sale of Cheddar News, the network once billed as “CNBC for millennials,” less than five years after buying the company. Altice USA has hired Goldman Sachs to help explore strategic alternatives for Cheddar News, according to three people with knowledge of the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity. They cautioned that Altice was still weighing its options and could decide against a sale. Representatives for Altice USA and Goldman declined to comment. Among them: Gas Station TV (which, yes, plays at the pump) and MTV’s college campus network (which Cheddar bought in 2018).

A little over a year into his first term, President Bill Clinton made good on a promise to return to MTV if young voters sent him to the White House. The town hall-style program in 1994 was meant to focus on violence in America, but it was a question of personal preference that made headlines and helped put MTV News on the media map. Now, a generation after MTV News bridged the gap between news and pop culture, Paramount, the network’s parent company, announced this week that it was shuttering the news service. They brought viewers on the presidential campaign trail and face to face with world leaders like Yasir Arafat, and took them into college dorms in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. CNN —Sum 41, the Emo-era band that brought hit tracks like “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep” to the iPods of millennials across the globe, are “disbanding” after 27 years together. In a statement posted to Sum 41’s Twitter on Monday, the band informed their followers that they will complete their current tour, release their final album “Heaven :x: Hell,” and embark on a final worldwide headlining tour before going their separate ways. “Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives,” the statement read. “We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. CNN —Stephen “tWitch” Boss, the amiable DJ for “Ellen DeGeneres Show” and dancer who rose to fame on “So You Think You Can Dance,” has died, his wife, fellow dancer Allison Holker Boss, confirmed in a statement to CNN. “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us,” Holker Boss said in a statement. “I have always been that type ‘Don’t tell me what I won’t do,’” Boss said.
