Former President Donald Trump will not be sentenced in his New York criminal hush money case until after the Nov. 5 presidential election, a judge ruled Friday. The sentencing, which was set for Sept. 18, will instead take place on Nov. 26, Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan ruled. The Supreme Court's ruling had already spurred Merchan to delay Trump's sentencing, which was originally scheduled for July 11, by more than two months. Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung in a statement Friday said, "There should be no sentencing in the Manhattan DA's Election Interference Witch Hunt." "As mandated by the United States Supreme Court, this case, along with all of the other Harris - Biden Hoaxes, should be dismissed," Cheung said.

Trump, however, cannot discuss any prosecutor, court staffer or their family members, according to a court order on Tuesday from Judge Juan Merchan that rolls back parts of the gag order imposed before the trial began. That aspect of the gag order remains in effect at least until his sentencing, which is set for July 11. Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement that Merchan’s order “leaves in place portions of the unconstitutional gag order” and that Trump plans to appeal the ruling. Trump repeatedly complained about the gag order throughout the seven-week trial, arguing that witnesses, including Cohen, were taking advantage of the gag order to attack him when he couldn’t respond. In the filing, the Manhattan district attorney’s office said it did not oppose lifting the portion of the gag order that blocked Trump from making statements about witnesses.

Trump, who was convicted last month on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, is expected to have a virtual interview with a New York City Probation Department official on Monday, three people with knowledge of the matter said. The interview is required as the agency prepares a sentencing recommendation for the judge in the case. Mr. Trump will be in his home at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., for the virtual meeting — his first with a probation official since he became the first U.S. president to be convicted of a felony. A jury in Manhattan found him guilty on May 30 in a hush-money case stemming from a payment that Mr. Trump’s then-fixer, Michael Cohen, made to Stormy Daniels, a porn star who said she had a sexual encounter with Mr. Trump in 2006. The payment came in the final days of Mr. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, and the creation of 34 false business records to cover up Mr. Trump’s reimbursement of Mr. Cohen came in early 2017, after he was elected.

A Georgia appeals court on Wednesday halted the criminal election case against Donald Trump in the state pending the outcome of his bid to disqualify the district attorney prosecuting the former president. The order by the Georgia Court of Appeals all but guarantees that Trump and eight co-defendants in the case will not stand trial before the November presidential election, where Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee. The appeals court said it would hear arguments on Oct. 4 on Trump's effort to boot Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the case. The appeals court must rule on the question by March 14, 2025, according to the court's website. The appeals court order Wednesday halting the case also applies to Rudy Giuliani, David Shafer, Robert Cheeley, Michael Roman, Mark Meadows, Cathy Latham, Jeffrey Clark and Harrison Floyd.
