The US Navy said its drone boats fired lethal weaponry for the first time in the Middle East. Footage of one of the engagements shows Navy personnel operating the drone boat in the open waters. The USV then fires one of the munitions, which includes a first-person view of its trajectory into the simulated target, causing it to detonate on impact. Navy officials said the exercise was designed to advance the lethality and combat potential of drone boats, and future events could broaden the arsenal of these unmanned systems. Beyond drone boats, the Pentagon has taken other measures in recent months to boost deterrence in the region like dispatching an assortment of fighter jets and warships to the area.

A liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker is tugged towards a thermal power station in Futtsu, east of Tokyo, Japan November 13, 2017. GAS HEAVY GENERATIONThe main driver of Thailand's LNG imports - which have jumped by 127% since 2019 - is its gas-heavy electricity generation system. Since 2015, natural gas capacity expansions have accounted for 72% of Thailand's total increases in electricity generation capacity, Ember data shows. TRACKING PROGRESSA key solace for transition advocates is that the development of new electricity generation capacity may be more important than historical capacity development trends. For the near term, however, the strong growth pace of Thailand's LNG imports suggests fossil fuels have most of the expansion momentum in Thailand's energy system.

By Alexander TanasCHISINAU (Reuters) - Moldova has not used Russian gas since late last year, but it is keeping open the option of buying supply from Gazprom if conditions are right, the head of the Russian gas giant's local subsidiary said on Tuesday. Moldova, one of Europe's poorest countries, has denounced Russia's war in neighbouring Ukraine and has been beset by years of disputes that pre-date the war over payment for Russian gas. The rest of Moldova has been using gas from European suppliers bought through the state-owned gas and power company Energocom. Vadim Ceban, head of Gazprom subsidiary Moldovagaz, said purchases of Russian gas for the bulk of Moldova's territory are possible if the right conditions are met. But on Tuesday, he acknowledged that purchases of Russian gas were possible, subject to strict conditions.

Foot Locker (FL) traded lower early Wednesday after analysts at UBS downgraded their rating on it to sell from neutral and lowered their price target to $30 from $36. One reason why UBS says Foot Locker is challenged is that it thinks Nike (NKE) as a percentage of Foot Locker sales will decline to 55% to 60% from 70% over the next 12 to 18 months. Her expertise is in developing brand partnerships across several different companies, and that's essential for a multi-brand retailer like Foot Locker. Between UBS who put a sell on Foot Locker vs. CEO Mary Dillon who just bought stock, we'll side with the seasoned executive who just kicked off a turnaround plan. According to calculations, based on daily data of Russian gas exports via Ukraine and the TurkStream pipeline, Gazprom's gas exports to Europe fell in January to some 1.8 billion cubic metres (bcm) from 2.5 bcm in December. Gazprom halted gas supplies last year via the Yamal-Europe pipeline which traverses Belarus, Poland and terminates in Germany, as well as through the undersea Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which was blown up in September. According to European gas transmission group Entsog and Gazprom's daily reports on its transit via Ukraine, Gazprom's average daily gas supplies to Europe have declined to 58.1 million cubic metres (mcm) this month from 81.9 mcm in December. Gazprom has not disclosed its own statistics on exports and output since the start of the year. The company had said its gas exports outside ex-Soviet Union fell last year by 45% to 100.9 bcm.

Russian state gas producer Gazprom withdrew a threat to reduce gas supplies to Moldova from Monday but said it reserved the right to lower or halt flows in future if Moldova failed to make agreed payments. Last week, Gazprom accused Ukraine of withholding gas supplies which pass through the country on the way to Moldova — something Kyiv denied — and said it could start reducing those flows from Monday. In its latest statement, Gazprom said that Moldovan natural gas company Moldovagaz had paid for gas deliveries in November, adding that it had received payment for what it called gas destined for Moldovan customers but which remained in Ukraine. In a sign that flows were uninterrupted, Gazprom said separately on Monday that it will ship 42.2 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas to Europe via Ukraine on Monday, only slightly down from Sunday’s level of 42.6 mcm. Both figures include flows to Moldova.

Last week, Gazprom accused Ukraine of withholding gas supplies which pass through the country on the way to Moldova - something Kyiv denied - and said it could start reducing those flows from Monday. European gas prices rose last week on Gazprom's threat to cut flows to Moldova, as the supply route via Ukraine is the last functioning Russian gas corridor to Europe. Gas supplies are a constant source of tension between Russia and Moldova. Moldova and Ukraine last week accused Russia of using gas supplies as an instrument of blackmail, an accusation Moscow rejects.
Nov 23 (Reuters) - Eastbound gas flows rose on Wednesday morning on the Yamal-Europe pipeline to Poland from Germany, data from pipeline operator Gascade showed while flows of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine remained steady. Nominations for Russian gas into Slovakia from Ukraine via the Velke Kapusany border point stood at 41.7 million cubic metres (mcm), up slightly from 40.5 mcm the previous day, Ukrainian transmission system data showed. Russia's Gazprom (GAZP.MM) said it will ship 42.1 million cubic metres (mcm) of gas to Europe via Ukraine on Wednesday, a similar level to recent days. Gazprom has warned it could reduce gas flows via Ukraine, saying it believes some gas destined for Moldova are being kept by Ukraine. Gas flows via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which crosses the Baltic Sea to Germany from Russia, remained at zero.

Germany halted certification of the new Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia because of the Ukraine war so it never went into operation. Germany, Europe's biggest consumer of Russian gas, can import gas from Britain, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands via pipelines. Southern Europe can receive Azeri gas via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline to Italy and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) through Turkey. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports to Europe have increased from producers such as the United States, Qatar and other countries. OTHER OPTIONS TO COPE WITH A GAS SUPPLY CRUNCH?
Companies Gazprom PAO FollowLONDON, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Eastbound gas flows via the Yamal-Europe pipeline from Germany to Poland rose on Wednesday while Russian supplies to Europe via Ukraine remained stable. Nominations for Russian gas into Slovakia from Ukraine via the Velke Kapusany border point stood at 36.7 million cubic metres (mcm), almost unchanged from the previous day, Ukrainian transmission system data showed. Gas flows via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline, which crosses the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany, were flowing at 102 kWh/h on Wednesday between 0700 and 0800 CET. Russia said it was unable to restart the pipeline but since then the pipeline has also been damaged by suspected sabotage. Gas installation is pictured at the Cavern Underground Gas Storage (CUGS) Kosakowo facility, near Debogorze, Poland April, 30. "If we have a drop in temperature, we could expect an uptick in energy demand for heating," Buontempo said. But some analysts warn this alone will not compensate for the loss of Europe's main gas supplier - and a cold winter would make this worse. A cold winter in Europe could add 8 bcm to Europe's gas demand, said Energy Aspects analyst Leon Izbicki. If cold weather depletes gas storage levels this winter, Europe will need to replenish for next winter - with far less Russian gas.
Any hope of the Nord Stream network resuming shipments to Germany was dashed last month by suspected sabotage. Even then, it is unlikely to make up for the missing Russian gas. A risk is that as energy supplies dwindle, energy demand will not shrink enough. European industrial gas demand has fallen as high gas prices have led factories in energy-intensive sectors such as aluminium, steel and ammonia, have shut production. Europe can't afford any surprises this winter without Russian gasA more comfortable energy supply situation could be many winters away.
A Transnet Freight Rail train is seen next to tons of coal , File. Despite the country's estimated 212 billion tonnes of coal resources, MCM was its only operating mine until Minergy Ltd (MIN.BT) commissioned a new one in 2019 with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes. MCM currently produces 2.8 million tonnes of coal a year from its underground operations, feeding two nearby state-owned power stations and exporting to South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. The open cast mine has the potential to supply power station-grade coal for more than 30 years. Minergy said last week its total sales volume for the financial year ended June 2022 increased by 40%, with record sales achieved in May 2022.
