Trump's jurors in his classified docs trial will come from a very red swatch of South Florida. The case's judge announced on Friday that the trial will start in May 2024 in Fort Pierce, Florida. US District Judge Aileen Cannon, who Trump nominated, signed an order Friday announcing that the former commander-in-chief will be on trial beginning May 24, 2024, in Fort Pierce. That's good news for Trump because Fort Pierce, in St. Lucie County, is in an overwhelmingly red area of South Florida. All eyes were on her when she was randomly selected to oversee the Justice Department's case against Trump this summer.

Eight people were injured, one critically, in a shooting Monday during a holiday car show in Fort Pierce, Florida, authorities said. NBC affiliate WPTV of West Palm Beach reported one of those four is a child. Sheriff's officials said it wasn't a mass shooting where victims were struck randomly by gunfire. WPTV reported the shooting was preceded by an argument between two people. The car show was listed as part of the city's Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.

Hurricane Nicole weakened into a tropical storm shortly after making landfall on Florida’s Atlantic coast just south of Vero Beach early Thursday, officials said. Just under an hour later, the hurricane center said Nicole had weakened into a tropical storm as it made its way over east-central Florida, bringing strong winds, heavy rains and dangerous storm surge. Hurricane Nicole approaches the Florida coast on Nov. 10, 2022. After striking Florida, Nicole is expected to move over central and northern Florida and into southern Georgia on Thursday and Thursday night, forecasters said, before moving into the Carolinas. Nicole struck Florida as a hurricane about six weeks after Hurricane Ian hit the state as a Category 4 hurricane.
