PA Images/Getty ImagesAfter the family parted with the diamond piece in the 1960s, it was exhibited in the American Museum of Natural History before being acquired by a private collector. Sotheby'sThe piece consists of three rows of diamonds that trail on either side into a diamond tassel. A glittering scandalSome of the diamonds from the necklace may have come from the piece at the heart of the “Affair of the Diamond Necklace” scandal, according to the auction house. The necklace, in the hands of a trickster, had in the meantime actually been broken up and sold in London.

The fact is that gas cars aren’t being weaponized on most of the continent the way they are in America. I’m all in favor of the commendable end to gas cars that Europe has now embraced – a decade or more hence. Of course, that’s only one corner of what’s happened to Paris traffic under the Hidalgo regime. The same toxic, planet-warming emissions are being generated, especially with all that idling in place in endless traffic jams. Perhaps a couple of decades from now when all those gas guzzling cars will be gone entirely?

Presumably Johnny Depp, a heat-seeking target for the armies of paparazzi amassed here, helps explain the movie’s presence. The king is played by a powdered and bewigged Depp, who looks suitably indolent, though perhaps because he’s underused. The king is mainly there to look gaga at Jeanne, which he does a great deal, though it’s a tough call whether Louis lavishes as much attention on Jeanne as Maïwenn does. Among all the close-ups of Jeanne giggling, Maïwenn folds in some palace intrigue and the briefest nod at the terror to come. There’s some comfort that “Jeanne” isn’t contending for the Palme d’Or, which would be an embarrassment, but is being presented out of competition.
Notably, the price of Ivana Trump's former abode has not budged since being listed in November 2022. The home was listed with Douglas Elliman and features extravagant rooms tied to Ivana Trump's personality, as well as a haunting doll modeled after Ivana Trump. After Ivana Trump's highly-publicized and financially contentious divorce from Donald Trump, Ivana Trump was awarded a settlement worth $25 million and purchased the home for $2.5 million. Ivana and Donald Trump's three children, Donald Trump Jr, Eric Trump, and Ivanka Trump, spent their teenage years in the apartment. Correction: April 25, 2023 — An earlier version of this story misstated the months since Ivana Trump's passing.
LONDON, March 24 (Reuters) - King Charles' first state visit to France as British monarch, postponed on Friday because of widespread social unrest, was supposed to be an occasion celebrating a new chapter of harmony in relations between London and Paris. "The king and queen consort were of course very much looking forward to the visit," a Buckingham Palace source said. On the first state visits of his reign, the new monarch and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, were going first to France before heading on to Germany. Now it jars with the angry mood in France," Peter Ricketts, a former British ambassador to France, told Sky News. Both the palace and Macron said they looked forward to the postponed trip going ahead in the future when dates can be found.
By using special constitutional powers instead of risking lawmakers rejecting the reform, Macron has given ammunition to the opposition and to trade union leaders who cast the reform as undemocratic. LE PEN AMBUSHTo be sure, claims of authoritarianism by the pension bill's critics are far-fetched. Political observers say Le Pen played her hand well. "Mrs Le Pen is ready for the ambush," Laurent Berger, the head of the moderate CFDT union said on Thursday, hours before the vote. But the end of debates in parliament may do little to quell anger on the streets.
SUMMERY PALACE Interior designer Kevin Klein’s light-filled take on monarchical style, in his Los Angeles home. A CENTURIES-OLD French château dazzles the eye. But is it a tempting place to unwind, chomp a BLT and stream “Top Gun: Maverick”? For the décor of his own 1927 French Normandy-style home in Los Angeles, local designer Kevin Klein took inspiration from the Château de Digoine, in Burgundy, but he knew he needed a friendlier take on castle aesthetics. “I figured if I could replicate just 1% of Digoine in a contemporary way, I’d be happy.”

The “Diana and Endymion” painting by Jerome-Martin Langlois. Amiens, where French President Emmanuel Macron was born, is a candidate to be European Capital of Culture in 2028. “We do not dispute in any way the legal acquisition that you have made but we are candidates to be European Capital of Culture in 2028. So I would like that on this occasion, this year, you could lend us your painting,” Amiens mayor Brigitte Foure said in a video posted on Facebook. Foure said the painting was probably lent to the Amiens museum by the Louvre before World War One, after which Amiens lost trace of it.

REUTERS/Gonzalo FuentesPARIS, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Two pieces of furniture formerly owned by France's Queen Marie Antoinette are set to go to auction on November 22 in Paris. The 250-year-old chest of drawers and chair are estimated to be worth 800,000 to 1.2 million euros ($832,000-1.25 million) and 100,000 to 200,000 euros ($104,000-208,000) respectively. She would marry the soon-to-be Louis XVI that year." The chair was the last royal order placed by the then queen, before she was overthrown during the French Revolution and later executed at age 37. Last year, a pair of diamond bracelets which also belonged to the former Queen were sold at auction in Switzerland for $8.18 million, several times the pre-sale estimate.
Ivana's children — Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump — spent their teenage years there. The property is located between Fifth and Madison avenues and is listed for sale for $26.5 million. All proceeds from the estate sale are slated to go to Ivana's three children: Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and, Ivanka Trump. "My mom absolutely loved that house," son Eric told The Journal, adding that the property "embodied Ivana Trump." In her 2017 book "Raising Trump," Trump noted that the property needed "significant work" after it had sat empty for nearly 12 years.
BNP defies French banks’ interest-rate malaise

A regulated savings rate, with roots tracing back to the French Emperor’s wars of conquest, is one reason why Gallic retail lenders could miss out on an interest-rate windfall that is boosting banks elsewhere. Ironically, 60 billion euro BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA) looks set to escape the curse because of some international expansion of its own. One-third of Gallic lenders’ deposits sit in savings vehicles with regulated interest rates, Jefferies analysts reckon. Combined with other interest-rate regulations and the fact that many French mortgage borrowers are on fixed rates, the upshot is that Gallic retail lending margins don’t rise as quickly as they might in Spain or Britain. Chief Executive Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, who is approaching his 11-year anniversary in the role, deserves credit for helping BNP to defy the lending malaise at home.
