At least five game show contestants were "shamelessly exploited" and subjected to "unreasonable, unsafe" working conditions on Amazon Prime's "Beast Games,” a California civil action said this week. "Beast Games" has been billed as a reality competition program with $5 million in prize money, according to Amazon which acquired streaming rights to the show. "Defendant production companies and Amazon shamelessly exploited the labor of approximately (redacted) people who served as contestants," according to lawyers representing the plaintiffs. The 50-page complaint also redacted details of how plaintiffs allegedly suffered and broadly suggested that work conditions were unsuitable. There was also "insufficient medical staff to attend to potential and actual injuries during" production, lawyers for the contestants said.

Michael Jackson’s debts and creditor’s claims at the time of his death in 2009 totaled more than $500 million, according to a court filing by the pop superstar’s estate that provides details of his financial woes toward the end of his life. Jackson owed about $40 million to the tour promoter A.E.G., according to the filing, which was made in Los Angeles County Superior Court this month and earlier reported by People magazine. The filing said that 65 creditors made claims against the singer after his death, some of which resulted in lawsuits, and that some of his debt had been “accruing interest at extremely high interest rates.”A representative for the Jackson estate, which is executed by John Branca and John McClain, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The estate filed the court papers as a request to authorize the payment of about $3.5 million to several legal firms for their work in the second half of 2018. Taylor Swift says it was ‘excruciating’ to watch the Ticketmaster debacle. More than two dozen Taylor Swift fans sued Ticketmaster in a California court for anticompetitive and fraudulent behavior after they alleged the company blocked them from buying tickets last month to the musician’s concerts. In the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the fans said Ticketmaster knew the sale would be plagued with issues in part because it had let too many people access the presale.

LOS ANGELES — The jury weighing the rape charges against “That ‘70s Show” star Danny Masterson announced Wednesday it was hopelessly deadlocked and a mistrial was declared. Masterson has also denied assaulting a fourth woman, identified as Jane Doe #4, who told the court she too had been raped by him. While the judge allowed testimony by Jane Doe #4, Masterson was not criminally charged with raping her. The panel, on Nov. 18, sent Olmedo a note saying they had been “unable to reach a unanimous decision” on any of the three forcible rape counts against Masterson. “You have been deliberating for an insufficient amount of time,” Olmedo said before excusing them for the holiday break.
