But one source said the commission is likely to allege that Southern Glazer's has been providing "secret kickbacks" to large retail customers and violating the 1936 Robinson-Patman Act. Florida-based Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits distributes alcohol for over 7,000 brands in 44 states. Under the FTC's interpretation, the Robinson-Patman Act is not a wholesale ban on price discrimination and could allow volume discounts.

Doctors found the woman’s alcohol levels could range between 30 millimoles per liter and 62 millimoles per liter — below 2 millimoles per liter is normal, Zewude said. “I know of over 300 people diagnosed with auto-brewery syndrome and we have over 800 patients and caregivers in our private Facebook support group,” said Cordell, who was not involved in the new case. “But it wasn’t until the seventh visit that an emergency room doctor finally said, ‘I think this sounds like auto-brewery syndrome,’ and sent her to a specialist,” Zewude said. Since 1974, 20 diagnosed cases of auto-brewery syndrome have been reported in English medical literature, according to an April 2021 review. “I believe many people may walk around feeling foggy and just think they are tired when they might be fermenting alcohol.”‘A metabolic storm’There are risk factors for auto-brewery syndrome.

Fed up with the heavy fines, the people of Urris declared themselves the independent nation of the “Urris Republic of Poitín” and sealed themselves in by collapsing the pass in 1812, McLaughlin-Doherty explains. The townspeople were able to be self-sufficient because of their farmlands and fishing, thus allowing the Urris Republic of Poitín to last for three years before the coup was ended in 1815. The Catholic Church, a stronghold in Ireland, was instrumental in the eventual curbing of illegal poitín production.

CNN —A record quantity of bribes, including cash, booze, drugs and precious metals, has been seized by Indian election authorities in the run-up to mammoth nationwide polls that begin on Friday. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday revealed it had recovered inducements worth just over $550 million since March — the largest amount in the country’s 75-year electoral history. It marks a “sharp increase” on the more than $400 million in bribes seized by the ECI in the country’s last general election in 2019, the agency said. India’s political parties and leaders routinely preach against election corruption and inducements, but the level of monitoring and tackling of graft across such a vast nation varies widely. Anti-corruption groups had long complained that the system meant a lack of transparency in donations to political parties — allowing corporations to donate large sums without disclosure.

Gutierrez Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March in relation to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Gutierrez Reed, who was responsible for firearm safety and storage on the movie’s set, is set to be sentenced Monday. Along with facing the maximum time in prison, Gutierrez Reed also faces a $5,000 fine as part of the sentence. Like Gutierrez Reed, Baldwin, who was holding the weapon, is now also facing an involuntary manslaughter charge in Hutchins’ death. The special prosecutor’s office cited summaries of some of her jailhouse calls as one of the reasons why Gutierrez Reed should be given the maximum sentence.
