Another man, Gilbert John Jr., fatally stabbed the victim, the prosecutor's office said. Panteah said the two other people got out as she drove to Gallup with the man still locked in the trunk, according to the plea agreement. New York CNN —New York City officials have agreed to restore more than $111 million in funding to libraries and cultural institutions, the City Council announced Thursday. “We are proud to announce a full restoration of funds to both our libraries and cultural institutions in the upcoming budget,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams in a statement Thursday. More than 174,000 people sent letters to City Hall in support of the “No Cuts to Libraries!” campaign since the cuts were announced in November. “This funding will allow us to resume seven-day service, a priority for many New Yorkers,” the libraries said in a statement shared with CNN. “We are running a library system today on a pre-pandemic funding level that has not kept pace with inflation,” Linda Johnson, president and CEO of Brooklyn Public Library said at the time.

Advertisement"It's something we count on for the winter months," Johnson told Business Insider. Hosts like Johnson will charge as much as they need to — so it's no shock your Christmastime Airbnb costs a pretty penny. Courtesy of AirDNAAirDNA data shows the last week of the year is typically the second highest-income week for short-term rentals, surpassed only by the Fourth of July. But for Thanksgiving, it was listed for $1,500 to $1,700 per night; around Christmas, it will go for $2,000 to $2,300 a night.

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky called out his own company in an interview with Bloomberg published Monday. AdvertisementAdvertisementAirbnb CEO Brian Chesky says it's time for the company to "get our house in order," in an interview with Bloomberg, and short-term rental hosts are thrilled. Airbnb host Ric Kenworthy, who manages over 90 properties in Arizona, says Chesky's comments were a long time coming. Chesky's site is a marketplace that connects hosts and travelers, and the CEO is struggling to keep both sides happy. As travelers continue to book short-term rentals, Chesky acknowledged the company "never fully built the foundation" needed for the current size of the company.

Airbnb is adding James Manyika, Google's "AI ambassador," to its board of directors, the company said Monday. Manyika's addition underscores CEO Brian Chesky's ambitions in artificial intelligence, which Chesky has said will radically change the Airbnb platform by 2024. As Google's head of Research, Technology and Society, Manyika reports to CEO Sundar Pichai and focuses on how tech affects user's daily lives. Increasingly, that encompasses the company's AI research and products. With Manyika on the board, Chesky gains a powerful voice that sits at the intersection of AI and society.

The ex-manager of a Pennsylvania Wendy's made up a fake employee to pocket extra wages, police say. She manually clocked the "ghost employee" in and out for 128 shifts, police said. The woman was charged with theft by deception and an arrest warrant issued. In April, Johnson admitted to a police officer that she added Bright as an employee and created shifts he didn't work, police said. Wendy's didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider, made outside normal working hours.

Americans are still booking short-term rentals for the summer at record rates, beating expectations. But the growing pool of Airbnb and Vrbo hosts means some hosts are seeing revenue drop up to 18%. Americans are still voraciously booking short-term rentals, despite economic uncertainty — and are even outpacing expectations. In January, analytics site AirDNA forecasted demand for short-term rentals, as measured by nights booked, would grow by 5% in 2023. "Travel brands and the service economy have outperformed expectations, and short-term rentals are no different," said Jamie Lane, chief economist at AirDNA.

The host, Ryan Villines, is organizing a boycott, encouraging hosts to "snooze" their listings. Like Johnson, many Airbnb hosts and property managers are frustrated by what they describe as the vacation-rental platform's tendency to favor guests in disputes. Liz DeBold Fusco, an Airbnb spokesperson, said the new policy was meant to provide "greater flexibility" to hosts and guests. After outrage from hosts, Airbnb walked back the reimbursement component, but hosts said it's too little, too late. Airbnb host Ryan Villines is "snoozing" his listings in Missouri and Montana as a protest.
