LONDON (Reuters) - Meghan, Britain's Duchess of Sussex, has said she was targeted with "hateful" online abuse during her two pregnancies, criticising the toxicity and lack of humanity on the internet and in parts of the media. The glare of public attention has often left Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, on the receiving end of strong opinions. And Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, pushed back at that directly on Friday, criticizing a culture of bullying on social media. “We have forgotten about our humanity, and that has got to change,” she said, while appearing on a keynote panel at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas, focusing on the representation of women in entertainment and the media. Meghan and Harry have voiced repeated concerns about how negative media attention has affected them, both while they were active members of Britain’s royal family and since they stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States. Meghan said on Friday that she had received the bulk of online abuse while she was pregnant with her children, Archie and Lilibet, and in the months after their births.

However, a royal source said there were no plans for Harry to meet his brother Prince William while he’s in London. The Sussexes emigrated to the United States after stepping away from royal duties in 2020. While the royal family are an institution, they are also a family. Prince Harry last saw his father when he attended the coronation at Westminster Abbey last May. The cancer diagnosis only 17 months into Charles’ reign has also become a moment of unity for the royal family.

Claire Ptak first learned about Meghan Markle through Ms. Markle’s former lifestyle blog, The Tig, a so-called hub for the discerning palette that she started in 2014. After Ms. Ptak, the owner of Violet, a cafe and bakery in London, published “The Violet Bakery Cookbook” in 2015, she sent a copy to Ms. Markle, who later asked to interview her. “Great questions,” Ms. Ptak, 48, said of that conversation. Ms. Ptak had by then been living in London for about a decade. Last year, Ms. Ptak made a version of the cake for a birthday party for the couple’s daughter, Princess Lilibet Diana.

REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File PhotoLONDON, March 8 (Reuters) - The children of Britain's Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will be known as prince and princess, with the couple publicly using their daughter's royal title for the first time to announce she had been christened. Under royal rules, the monarch's grandchildren can become princes or princesses of the realm, meaning that Harry's children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, were eligible to use the titles since his father became king last September. Buckingham Palace said it will update the royal website to reflect Archie and Lilibet's titles in "due course". Meghan said in an interview two years ago that the British royal family refused to make her son Archie a prince and had conversations about how dark his skin might be.

LONDON — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle faced "very real" threats to their safety, including threats emanating from the far-right, while in the U.K., an outgoing top British police official has said. Harry and Meghan moved to Los Angeles in 2020 after spending time in Canada. They initially announced in January 2020 that they would take a “step back” as senior members of the royal family. “In the absence of such protection, Prince Harry and his family are unable to return to his home,” it said. The statement said Harry had “inherited a security risk at birth,” and asserted that his family has been subjected to “well-documented neo-Nazi and extremist threats."
The death of Queen Elizabeth II has "been a complicated time" for Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, she said in an interview with Variety published Wednesday. "I’m really grateful that I was able to be with my husband to support him, especially during that time," Meghan, 41, said. Meghan and Harry traveled from California — where they decamped after stepping back from royal duties in 2020 — to the U.K. to attend the queen’s funeral following her Sept. 8 death. During their trip to the U.K., Harry and Meghan also reunited with Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, at Windsor Castle to pay tribute to the queen and greet mourners. The couple share two children: Archie, born in May 2019, and Lilibet, born in June 2021, who is named after the queen, whose family nickname was Lilibet.
