China’s J-20 stealth fighter entered service in 2017, officials said at the time. Stealth fighters are those that are designed to evade radar and other monitoring to conduct missions without being detected or intercepted. It’s not clear when the new J-35A fighter would be commissioned into military use and where the fighters would be deployed. China’s development of stealth fighters has for years been dogged by accusations that it stole crucial stealth fighter technology from the US. The J-35A is a “new type of stealth fighter jet independently developed by Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC),” a Chinese military affiliated outlet said this week.

Rising popularity from hedge funds can be a strong signal of outperformance in the near future for stocks, and Goldman Sachs highlighted which names the smart money is loving right now. The Wall Street bank analyzed the holdings of 735 hedge funds with $2.4 trillion of both long and short equity positions at the start of the fourth quarter, based on regulatory filings. Goldman then identified a slew of Russell 1000 stocks with the largest increase in number of hedge fund owners during the quarter. Kenvue , the consumer health business that Johnson & Johnson spun out as an independent company earlier this year, saw 48 hedge funds in total adding it as a holding last quarter, Goldman said. Hedge funds also piled into two merger arbitrage plays — Splunk and Capri Holdings — last quarter.

Starbucks — Shares jumped 9.5% after the company posted an earnings and revenue beat in the fiscal fourth quarter. Palantir also raised its revenue guidance to between $2.216 billion and $2.22 billion for the full year. Clorox — Shares rallied more than 6.6% Thursday after the company posted an earnings and revenue beat in the fiscal first quarter. CyberArk's fourth-quarter and full-year earnings guidance also came in above analysts' estimates. Management lowered the company's full-year earnings, revenue and operating margins guidance.

Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

Novo Nordisk — The Danish drugmaker stock added 5.5% after saying late Tuesday it was halting Ozempic's kidney disease treatment trial after a committee said an analysis showed signs of success. DaVita , Fresenius Medical Care , Baxter International — Shares of dialysis services providers DaVita and Fresenius Medical Care sank 18.4% and 19.6%, respectively, on Novo Nordisk's news. Exxon Mobil , Pioneer Natural Resources — Exxon Mobil shares fell more than 4% after the largest U.S. oil and gas producer agreed to buy shale rival Pioneer Natural Resources for $59.5 billion in an all-stock deal, or $253 per share.
