After she got divorced in 2021, Sora Lee bought a brand new Tesla Model 3 for just over $70,000. "I just really wanted a Tesla because it's something my ex wouldn't let me [have], and I regret buying that full price," the 34-year-old tells CNBC Make It. It wasn't necessarily that she couldn't afford the car or the approximate $1,000 a month she puts toward the loan. But in retrospect, she says buying a shiny new car wasn't a very smart investment. "If I had put that into something else, I would have been making more money in terms of my investment return."

CNN —As one of the lead negotiators for students protesting inside the grounds of Columbia University, Mahmoud Khalil said his primary objective was to get the university to sever all financial ties with Israel. Khalil said Columbia never put anything in writing, instead making offers verbally. But without a firm promise, Columbia’s offer didn’t go far enough for Khalil and other protesters, since the university had previously rejected divestment proposals. Khalil said they then presented Columbia with another offer: Rather than dump Israel-tied investments, Columbia could instead divest from weapons manufacturing companies and any companies complicit in violating international law. AdvertisementIn an overlooked lawsuit, Donald Trump's lawyers are exhibiting a habit from his White House days: Hunting for anonymous sources. At each turn, a lawyer for the Pulitzer Board members stopped their clients from answering. The journalists whom Trump's lawyers deposed did, however, offer some characterization of the "consultants" who conducted the reviews. The Pulitzer Prize Board is hosted by Columbia University, in Manhattan, which manages the small organization's payroll and offers institutional support. “Some darknesses refuse to fade,” the poet Danielle DeTiberus observed after contemplating “Judith Beheading Holofernes” by Artemisia Gentileschi. Having recently seen the dark paintings by Pierre Soulages at Lévy Gorvy Dayan gallery, in Manhattan, the poet’s lyric resonated. DeTiberus, in “The Artist Signs Her Masterpiece, Immodestly,” sees in Gentileschi’s depiction of a revenge killing the assertion of her agency. Kerry James Marshall used jet black skin tones to make Black people seem like human archetypes birthed from a subterranean womb. Ad Reinhardt painted subtly dark canvases at the edge of our eyes’ scotopic capabilities, their hues legible only after prolonged looking.

An attorney for Tesla , in the first U.S. trial over allegations that its Autopilot feature led to a death, however, said the crash was the result of "a classic human error." The lawsuit, filed against Tesla by the passengers and Lee's estate, accuses Tesla of knowing that Autopilot and other safety systems were defective when it sold the car. Tesla said its Autopilot driver assistant system is not designed to make a sharp turn on a highway, as it defended the system's safety. "The case is not about Autopilot," Michael Carey, an attorney for Tesla, said. The electric-vehicle maker also claims it was not clear whether Autopilot was engaged at the time of the crash.

Something to sip on…Kim Fields in a scene from "Living Single." Rather than rehash the fact that “Living Single” was “Friends” before “Friends” ever existed, lets applaud it for the glow-up and grow-up it showcased in Kim Fields. That’s why I have no problems jamming along to the new series “Dance with Qai Qai,” now running on YouTube. “It has been amazing to see how Qai Qai has captured the hearts of so many young fans so we’re thrilled to introduce them to ‘Dance with Qai Qai!,’” Williams said in a statement. "We had to wait two weeks," said Lee Bo-mi, a 35-year-old mother with a sick 3-year-old boy, at the Healthy Children's Hospital. By comparison, it costs about A$335 for initial standard consultation with an Australian paediatrician, while observation at Nationwide Children's Hospital in the U.S. costs $208 per hour, according to its website. Data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service shows paediatricians are South Korea's lowest paid doctors, making 57% less than the average doctor's salary. Sowha Hospital, South Korea's oldest children's hospital, recently suspended Saturday afternoon and Sunday treatment for the first time in 77 years due to a lack of staff. "If the number of children's hospitals decreases and the number of doctors falls, it's going to be difficult to get children treated."

For just as long, critics of affirmative action have questioned whether race-conscious admissions policies are fair or warranted. The Supreme Court weighed in on Thursday, striking down affirmative action policies at Harvard and the University of North Carolina. In 2014, he founded Students for Fair Admissions, the group behind several major Supreme Court challenges to affirmative action - including the cases that led to Thursday's decision. Connerly persuaded his fellow regents to ban affirmative action. He concluded that affirmative action as part of an approach that aimed to remedy historic disadvantages and did not favor unqualified applicants over qualified ones could still be used.

Cash App founder Bob Lee was having an affair with his accused killer's sister, Khazar Momeni, sources told WSJ. Khazar's brother, Nima Momeni, is in jail on murder charges in the fatal stabbing of Lee last month. Sources said Lee and Khazar were both part of "The Lifestyle," an underground San Francisco party scene. Cash App founder Bob Lee, who was stabbed to death last month, was having an affair with the sister of his alleged killer, Nima Momeni, according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal. The estate of publishing magnate Samuel Irving Newhouse Jr. took note last fall when collectors clamored after Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s $1.6 billion record-setting estate sale. Heartened by the art market’s resilience, the publisher’s family said Tuesday it plans to follow suit—auctioning off more of Mr. Newhouse’s own trove this spring. The move marks the third time the Newhouse estate has plied his pieces into sales since he died six years ago at age 89—a trickling strategy that contrasts with the theatrical, everything-must-go atmosphere conjured when Mr. Allen or the Rockefellers before him sold off vast art holdings all at once. The 16 latest works consigned to Christie’s for its coming New York sales in May represent a fraction of the art amassed over the decades by Condé Nast’s chairman emeritus, but the batch is estimated to top $144 million and will showcase his taste for a broad sweep of artists, including Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Jasper Johns and Lee Bontecou.
The FBI is analyzing shell casings found near power facilities in North Carolina and South Carolina, a law enforcement memo revealed Friday, after North Carolina gunfire led to nearly 96 hours of darkness in one county. The "target attacks" at two Duke Energy substations in Moore County, North Carolina on Saturday night knocked out power to 45,000 homes and businesses before local electricity was restored Wednesday night. No one lost power in the South Carolina shootings. So far there's no indication whether the North Carolina attacks have any connection to Wednesday night's gunfire in South Carolina, according to a law enforcement memo reviewed by NBC News. Authorities haven't publicly disclosed any possible motive for the North Carolina shooting.
According to South Korean law, during a serious disruption to transportation the government may issue such an order to force transport workers back to their jobs. If the government takes this route, it would be the first time in South Korean history such a order is issued. "The Yoon Suk-yeol government is threatening a hard-line response without any efforts to stop the strike," Lee told reporters on Thursday. This compares with South Korea's 200,000 tonnes of cement demand in the peak season between September and early December. The union estimated about 25,000 people were joining the strike, out of about 420,000 total transport workers in South Korea.
