Beirut CNN —Israel says it has launched a strike in Beirut, Lebanon, targeting a Hezbollah commander that it blamed for a deadly attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. An Israeli official identified the target of the strike as Fu’ad Shukr, also known as al-Hajj Mohsin. Israel wanted to send “a very strong message” with tonight’s strike, according to a senior Israeli official, but hopes to avoid further escalation. Hezbollah denied responsibility for the strike but did say it had fired at Israeli military targets in the area. Read previewSteven and Lauren Keys, now 33 and 34, retired at 29 and have visited every state and national park — managing to grow their wealth while doing so. They've explored much of the country, deciding their favorite national parks are in California and Alaska — while their least favorite are in the Midwest. "We've been to Yosemite a couple of times, and there are areas where you're sitting in traffic literally in a national park for an extra 45 minutes." About 41% of the total cost of attending all national parks came from traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, and other American territories. Their least favorite national park was Hot Springs in Arkansas, which was the first national park they visited.

Farage’s Reform UK party attacked the Conservative Party on its failure to bring down rates of legal and illegal migration. He won Clacton on a massive swing towards Reform UK, picking up 21,225 votes to the Conservatives’ 12,820. He pledged to “challenge the general election properly in 2029,” and promised to turn his rhetoric toward the Labour Party as it enters government. In many seats around the UK, Reform came second to Labour. Farage said the “Labour government will be in trouble very, very quickly and we will now be targeting Labour votes.

People celebrate exit poll results at a "Stop The Tories" election afterparty in London, on July 4. Last month’s European elections saw a historic number of lawmakers from hard-right and far-right parties elected to the European Parliament. Farage’s political success to date has all come without him holding a parliamentary seat. It is possible that Farage’s splitting of the right has actually helped Starmer increase his majority in parliament. An odd quirk of British politics is that the percentage of votes a party gets doesn’t necessarily translate to seats.

Andrew Milligan/WPA Pool/Getty ImagesYou may have noticed King Charles III hasn’t been out and about quite as much over the last six weeks and it’s not for the reason you think. As this is the first general election of Charles III’s reign, there may have been a desire from within the institution to emphasize this. First off, the PM informed King Charles of his decision to call for a general election. That’s because the day after a general election, the monarch invites the leader of the party that won the most seats in the House of Commons to Buckingham Palace.

It could be a disastrous night for the Conservatives, with the exit poll predicting the lowest-ever total number of seats in the party’s history. Because of its electoral system, Britain can see large discrepancies between the share of seats won by a party and its share of the popular vote. The exit poll suggests one of the largest swings in British political history, with Labour expected to win 410 seats and the Conservatives on 131. Britain’s traditional third party, the Liberal Democrats, also enjoyed a huge bump, going from just 11 seats won at the 2019 general election to a projected 61. Reform UK, a right-wing populist party, was projected to win 13 seats, also a lot more than many polls had suggested.

CNN —Three military horses from the prestigious Household Cavalry have been recovered after bolting through central London on Monday morning. In scenes that appear to be similar to an instance in April, five soldiers were conducting a routine exercise with six horses from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, when the lead horse was spooked by a London bus. Along with the lead horse, which was being led rather than ridden at the time, two riders were thrown from their horses as the animals ran free through the capital’s streets. “We can confirm that whilst exercising this morning, three horses from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment became loose from their riders. “One horse received minor injuries, but no further treatment is required and there were no injuries to the soldiers involved,” the statement added.

The Princess Royal, 73, had been injured while walking near horses at the royal estate, in Gloucestershire, western England, on Sunday evening. Anne will continue to rest and recover at home and return to public engagements when her medical team recommends it is safe and comfortable to do so, the source told CNN. He said in a statement, “I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all he team at Southmead Hospital for their care, expertise and kindness during my wife’s short stay,. The exact circumstances that led to the Princess Royal’s injuries were not clear but previously her medical team said that her head injuries were consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs. Emergency services were sent to the estate and, after medical care at the scene, she was transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for appropriate tests, treatment and observation.

London CNN —Catherine, Princess of Wales is to take part the Trooping the Colour celebration on Saturday - the King’s official birthday parade - in what will be her first public appearance since revealing her cancer diagnoses. The Princess of Wales - also known as Kate - will watch the rest of the parade with her family nearby, and is expected to join fellow royals on the balcony. The event - one of the highlights of the royal calendar - is a tradition marking the official birthday of the British sovereign for more than 260 years. Britain’s Kings and Queens have doubled up on their festivities since the 18th century, holding both a public celebration – the official birthday – and a more private event on the real date. Three of the British Army’s horses which bolted across in London in April have returned to duty and are expected to take part in this weekend’s birthday parade.
