The U.S. Supreme Court's presidential immunity ruling on Monday sends the federal case accusing Donald Trump of attempting to overturn his 2020 defeat back to Judge Tanya Chutkan for critical decisions that will shape the future of the historic prosecution. Chutkan, a judge on the U.S. District Court in Washington, will have to decide whether a pair of Supreme Court rulings requires some of the allegations against the Republican presidential candidate be tossed out. Chutkan, born in Jamaica and nominated as a judge by former Democratic President Barack Obama, was assigned to oversee the Trump case in August 2023. She has had little to do for more than six months as Trump's bid for presidential immunity stalled any activity until the Supreme Court ruled.

The ruling came on the final day of the Supreme Court's term that began in October. At issue in the case was whether Corner Post was too late when it brought its legal challenge. A group of small business associations had filed a brief urging the Supreme Court to maintain a strict statute of limitations that begins at the time a regulation is finalized. The Supreme Court in 2015 left in place a lower court's ruling backing the regulation. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Traynor's decision, setting up the Supreme Court appeal.

CNN —The Supreme Court on Friday significantly weakened the power of federal agencies to approve regulations in a major decision that could have sweeping implications for the environment, public health and the workplace. But the decision will net a far wider swath of federal regulations affecting many facets of American life. The decision overturns the Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council precedent that required courts to give deference to federal agencies when creating regulations based on an ambiguous law. The justices have been incrementally diminishing federal power for years, but the new case gave the court an opportunity to take a much broader stride. The Supreme Court had been trending in that direction for years, knocking back attempts by federal agencies in other contexts to approve regulations on their own.

CNN —Jupiter’s iconic Great Red Spot is a massive storm that has swirled within the atmosphere of the largest planet in the solar system for years. The Great Red Spot is a massive vortex within Jupiter’s atmosphere that is about 10,159 miles (16,350 kilometers) wide, which is similar to Earth’s diameter, according to NASA. But the researchers believe that the persistent atmospheric storm cell, which resulted from intense wind instability, produced the Great Red Spot.
