The housing market is flashing signs of life, Compass CEO Robert Reffkin said. AdvertisementThe housing market is flashing a handful of bullish signals for the year ahead, according to Compass CEO Robert Reffkin. The founder of one of the nation's top real estate brokerages said he believed the housing market will be on the path to recovery in 2024. But more owners appear to be moving out of necessity or have warmed up to the idea of selling as mortgage rates head lower. At this rate, buyers are outpacing sellers in the market, Reffkin said, noting that Compass's real estate agents are seeing more business in the new year.

CNN —On the eve of his Hall of Fame induction, NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki has said that his daughter is “mostly embarrassed” about any “hoopla” surrounding her dad. Alongside the German, two-time NBA champion Pau Gasol, four-time NBA champion Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, Dwyane Wade and the 1976 U.S. Olympic Women’s basketball team, among others, will be inducted. However, at a press conference on Tuesday, Nowitzki admitted that his impending inauguration has not yet fully resonated with his children. Nowitzki scored 35,223 points across 21 seasons in Dallas, playing 1,667 games for the only NBA team he ever featured for – only John Stockton played more games for one team across his career. His crowning moment arguably came in 2011 when he led the Mavs to the NBA title, the organization’s first and only championship in its history.

CNN —It’s been a while since Emiliano Grillo has been able to lift a trophy in celebration on the PGA Tour. Eventually, after the ball had traveled approximately 100 yards before stopping against a rock, Grillo was able to take a drop. Despite the near disaster, Grillo was able rally in the end, birdieing the second hole of the playoff to claim his first PGA Tour win since October 2015. Afterwards, Grillo explained his emotions and thought process during the agonizing wait when the ball was trickling downstream. This year, though, Grillo won $1.566 million for his efforts, fending off stiff challenges from Schenk, Scottie Scheffler and Harry Hall to win his second PGA Tour win.

Photo: LM Otero/Associated PressThe gunman accused of killing eight people in a mass shooting at a Texas mall on Saturday used an AR-15-style rifle in the attack and multiple other firearms were found at the scene, according to a law-enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation. More than 100 fired cartridges were also found at the crime scene, a suburban mall outside of Dallas, the official said.
Marjorie Taylor Greene blamed "mental illness, drugs, and evil forces" for the Texas mall shooting. The congresswoman repeated right-wing talking points that link antidepressants to mass shootings. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸 (@RepMTG) May 7, 2023She doubled down on the claims that mental health and drug addiction were to blame for mass shootings. The Georgia Republican repeated the right-wing talking point that links antidepressants to mass shootings. The Texas mall shooting suspect, who also died, has not yet been named, and it is unclear whether he suffered from mental health issues or drug addiction.
Inside the sprawling complex in suburban Allen, employees, shoppers and families with young children bolted to take cover in storage areas or back hallways, witnesses told CNN. The gunman was killed by an Allen Police Department officer who was at the mall on an unrelated call, police said. One witness, Kingsley Ezeh, told CNN he was walking inside the mall when people behind him suddenly began running. Autism rates tripled among children in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area from 2000 to 2016, according to a study published Thursday in the journal Pediatrics. Although there is no medical test for autism, the CDC has established a network of 17 sites across the country that estimate autism rates based on a combination of formal medical diagnoses and records from schools and health care providers. Nationally, the rise in autism rates has been similar to the trend in New York and New Jersey, according to a 2021 CDC report. But there’s probably more to the story: Genetic factors, and perhaps some environmental ones, too, might also be contributing to the trend. Beyond the improvements in diagnostics, genetic factors could be driving up autism cases on their own, experts said.

CNN —Luka Doncić scored 35 points, including a clutch three-pointer with less than 30 seconds remaining, to give the Dallas Mavericks a 103-101 win over the LA Clippers despite blowing a 25-point lead. “Luka Magic” also had 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals, making every one of his 11 free throws along the way. Up against an injury-hit Clippers team – including Kawhi Leonard who is managing a knock to his knee – the Mavericks took a 15 point first-quarter lead. Mavs fans will be relieved as they narrowly avoided losing their second game of the season after leading by 22 or more. “We’re giving up a lot of big leads, just like we drew it up,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said after the game.
The vintage aircraft in Saturday's deadly collision at a Dallas air show, as expected, lacked flight data recorders, making social media crucial to the investigation, a federal official indicated Sunday. "Neither aircraft was equipped with a flight data recorder or a cockpit data recorder," National Transportation Safety Board member Michael Graham said during a news conference Sunday. Photos and videos of the Wings Over Dallas Airshow collision, which killed all six on board the aircraft, could be “very critical, since we don't have any flight data recorders," he said. LM Otero / APStill, even under the NTSB's wish list for improved crash data, such vintage aircraft were not singled out. A cockpit voice recorder "records the flight crew’s voices, as well as other sounds inside the cockpit," the NTSB website says.

Tornado facts: How they form and what to look for
  + stars: | 2021-04-26 | by ( Jennifer Gray | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
Scott Cunningham/Getty Images“Sometimes, it may appear that a storm is in a perfect environment for a tornado to form, yet it never does. The updrafts and downdrafts work in tandem to pull the horizontal column of air down to form the tornado. “The most telltale sign that a tornado could be forming, when you are looking at a close-range severe thunderstorm, is the ‘wall cloud,’” says Miller. The wall cloud is a lowering of the cloud base that will lead to the vortex, or spinning of air. The presence of a wall cloud doesn’t always mean a tornado will form, but it certainly ups the odds.
