Much of the office market may be mired in a downturn, but demand has been strong for high-end space. New office construction has dropped off sharply, leading to a potential upcoming shortage. That demand has persisted even as office construction has been stifled by higher interest rates and inflation, which have pushed up costs. Worries over the health of the office market have also made lenders reluctant to finance new development. 8 million square feet of that is pre-leased, meaning that there is only about 10 million square feet of upcoming available top quality space.

For Europe, the prime concern is tariffs," wrote Goldman analysts. "If the entire impact came in 2025 this would be enough to eliminate any growth that year (our current top-down forecast is 4%)," Goldman wrote. Within sectors, beneficiaries of rising trade risks tend to be defensive stocks such as utilities, health care as well as Europe's GRANOLAS stocks, according to the bank. But he says a "meaningful selloff" in mega tech will see other names "pushed down as collateral damage." And if the AI narrative plays out as expected, a material sell-off in Mega Tech will present a buying opportunity in those names as well," he wrote.

French stocks are likely to take a further beating from political risk in the weeks and months ahead, but the impact will be focused in certain areas, according to strategists at Goldman Sachs. Along with an equity sell-off, borrowing costs climbed and the spread between French and German 10-year bond yields widened by 25 basis points. Goldman strategists expect that spread to remain wide in the coming weeks. "This would likely maintain the pressure on French domestic stocks, especially Banks, which are highly sensitive to sovereign spreads," Goldman strategists said in a research note published Friday. French domestic big names include supermarket chain Carrefour , construction firm Vinci and utility Engie , while its internationally oriented juggernauts include the likes of LVMH , L'Oreal and Remy Cointreau .

Many companies are in the AI infrastructure buildout phase right now. That's because, in order to enable AI applications, companies have to make the switch from "general purpose computing to accelerated computing," she said. "You can't run AI on traditional compute, it would be prohibitively expensive, and far too energy intensive," said Pleydell-Bouverie. That's a 35% increase from last year, she said, and all this incremental investment is being directed to AI initiatives. And the world is "only in the first five minutes of this AI infrastructure buildout," she added.
