Three Ukrainian men have been charged with treason in their home country. The trio helped Rudy Giuliani and the Trump campaign investigate Hunter Biden for the 2020 election. AdvertisementThree Ukrainian men — including a sitting politician — helped the Trump campaign investigate Hunter Biden before the 2020 election. The prosecution effort marks another key consequence of Trump's years-long quest to attack Hunter Biden — and, as a result, discredit his father. Additionally, Trump's call to Zelenskyy asking for help investigating Hunter Biden and other Democrats was a key factor in his first impeachment in 2019.

Those accused include Kostyantyn Kulyk, a former Ukrainian deputy prosecutor general who had drafted a memo in 2019 suggesting Ukraine investigate Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son, for his role serving on the board of a Ukrainian energy company. Also implicated were a current member of Ukraine’s Parliament, Oleksandr Dubinsky, and a former member, Andriy Derkach, who had publicly advocated for an investigation in Ukraine into Hunter Biden. They had also promoted a spurious theory that it was Ukraine, and not Russia, that had meddled in the 2016 presidential election in the United States. The three were indicted on charges of treason and belonging to a criminal organization. The charges refer to “information-subversive activities” and focus on actions in 2019 before the American presidential election.

The night-time assault is part of a coordinated Ukrainian offensive push near the beleaguered eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut, to which CNN obtained exclusive access. “Sometimes there are a lot of them,” Groove says, searching the area with his drone, trying to scope out Russian forces. They chase a few Russian vehicles, dropping bombs on them as they go. Ukrainian drone pilots are able to see their targets through their controllers, even at night, with the help of night vision. German-made Leopard 2 tanks, American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles among others were sent to the area to support Ukrainian forces as they stormed Russian positions.

A Ukraine MP said 27 Russian soldiers were killed by friendly fire during a botched retreat. The soldiers were fleeing positions in Donetsk when they were mistaken for enemy troops, per the MP. According to Mysiagin, the Russian forces assumed their troops were Ukrainians attempting to recapture territory near the Donetsk airport. This wouldn't have been the first time Russian forces gunned down their own troops. Kherson said he saw Russian forces firing rockets at the battlefield just as their soldiers were starting to retreat.

There’s simply no systematic pulling apart of the Russian defensive system that I could observe,” Gady tweeted. “Weakening Russian defenses to a degree that enables maneuver,” which will include the use of cluster munitions, is a critical task in the weeks ahead. It is far too early to tell whether the Ukrainian counteroffensive has entered a more dynamic phase. The Kremlin has seized upon the slow progress of the Ukrainian counter-offensive: a rare opportunity to go beyond damage limitation. “Russian defensive lines are not all contiguous or uniformly suited for strong defence.

REUTERS/Valentyn OgirenkoMay 15 (Reuters) - Ukrainian anti-graft authorities said on Monday they were investigating large-scale corruption in the country's Supreme Court system and shared a photograph of piles of dollars neatly lined up on a sofa. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) did not name anyone accused of corruption, but two local media organizations reported Supreme Court Chief Justice Vsevolod Kniaziev had been detained on suspicion of receiving a $3 million bribe. "NABU and SAP have exposed large-scale corruption in the Supreme Court, namely a scheme for the leadership and judges of the Supreme Court to receive bribes," the bureau said in the post. It said another 18 Supreme Court judges who heard the Ferrexpo case were now being searched.
Zhevago's case comes as Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy seeks to clip the wings of oligarchs dominating the economy since the fall of the Soviet Union three decades ago. Zhevago, a former lawmaker and former beneficiary owner of Finance & Credit Bank, was released on bail for 1 million euros and due to appear at an appeals court in the nearby town of Chambery. Zhevago told Reuters Finance & Credit was one of dozens of banks to lose vast sums of money after Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014. Since then, Russia's invasion has inflicted huge damage on Ukraine's industrial sector and contributed to the erosion of their wealth. Monthly publication Forbes Ukraine estimated Zhevago's worth at $2.4 billion in 2021 and $1.4 billion at the end of 2022.
Their resilience over the past year has come at a high cost, however, with millions of people displaced, thousands killed and parts of the country destroyed. Eight Ukrainians told WSJ about their experiences, including Nastia Tykha, who rescued a group of dogs from Irpin near the capital Kyiv during the early days of the war.

REUTERS/Pierre AlbouyCHAMBERY, France, Jan 5 (Reuters) - A French court on Thursday postponed to Jan. 19 a hearing on whether to extradite Ukrainian billionaire Kostyantyn Zhevago to his home country. The 48-year-old billionaire, who controls London-listed iron pellet producer Ferrexpo (FXPO.L), was arrested and detained in France in late December at Ukraine's request. Zhevago told the court the case against him was political. "I ask for your permission to leave prison until the next hearing, and I will do everything you asked," said, speaking via an interpreter.

REUTERS/Pierre AlbouyCHAMBERY, France, Jan 5 (Reuters) - A French court decided on Thursday to release Ukrainian billionaire Kostyantyn Zhevago on bail ahead of an extradition hearing on Jan. 19 on whether he should be sent to Ukraine to face embezzlement charges. Zhevago, a 48-year-old billionaire who controls London-listed iron pellet producer Ferrexpo (FXPO.L), was arrested in France in late December at Ukraine's request and had been detained since. The businessman, one of Ukraine's richest men, told the court he did nothing wrong and should not be extradited. Zhevago served in the Ukrainian parliament from 1998 to 2019.
Zhevago was arrested on Tuesday evening at the Courchevel ski resort in the French Alps, the official said, adding that Ukraine sought the businessman's extradition. The 48-year-old will appear before the appeals court of Chambery in southeastern France on Jan. 5, the official said. Ferrexpo, whose shares fell around 5% on the news of its controlling shareholder's arrest, did not respond to an emailed request for comment. The company had a market capitalisation of just above 1 billion pounds ($1.20 billion) as of Wednesday. In 2021 Ukraine's DBR reported that Zhevago had been put on an international wanted list in connection with the investigation into Finance & Credit Bank, which the former lawmaker had indirectly controlled.
