The article was published a day after the two countries announced that Putin would visit North Korea for the first time in 24 years for two days starting on Tuesday. Putin's foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said Russia and North Korea may sign a partnership agreement during the visit that would include security issues. Ahead of the visit North Korea appears to have been making preparations for a possible military parade in downtown Pyongyang, commercial satellite imagery showed. He said the United States had seen Putin "get incredibly desperate over the past few months" and look to Iran and North Korea to make up for equipment lost on the battlefield.

Seoul, South Korea CNN —North Korean troops have suffered “multiple casualties” from land mine explosions while laying explosives along the country’s heavily armed border with the South in recent months, the South Korean military said Tuesday. A number of the North Korean soldiers were killed or wounded by land mine explosions, the JCS said in a statement, without providing more details on the casualties. The South Korean military is closely monitoring the North’s military activities on the border, it added. It said the measures are also an effort by North Korea to strengthen internal controls, such as blocking North Korean residents and troops from defecting to South Korea. Separately, South Korean troops fired warning shots after North Korean soldiers working in the DMZ briefly crossed into the South on Tuesday in the second such incident in less than two weeks, the JCS said.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed on Thursday that his company's Optimus humanoid robots could eventually make the automaker worth more than half of that. As for shareholder value, Musk said Optimus could be the catalyst for lifting Tesla's market cap to $25 trillion someday. The company, he predicted, will have "over 1,000, or a few thousand, Optimus robots working at Tesla" in 2025. Getting to a $25 trillion market cap would mean that Tesla would be worth about eight times Apple's value today. He did say that autonomous vehicles could get the company to a market cap of $5 trillion to $7 trillion.

☆ South Korean Buldak ‘fire noodles’ are too spicy for Denmark

Hong Kong/Seoul CNN —Three varieties of “fire chicken” instant ramen noodles popularized by a viral internet challenge have been recalled in Denmark after they were deemed to be too spicy. The level of capsaicin found in Buldak Hot Chicken Ramen 3x Spicy, Buldak Hot Chicken Ramen 2x Spicy and Hot Chicken Stew was so high that it could poison consumers, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration said in a statement issued Tuesday. South Korean noodle giant Samyang, which developed the ramen, said on Wednesday that the products were not being recalled because of quality issues. Buldak, which means “fire chicken” in Korean, was developed by Samyang’s chief executive, Kim Jung-soo, a housewife who married into the family business and eventually took over. According to taste testers, the original buldak ramen scored around 4,000 on the Scoville scale, which is roughly equivalent to the heat of jalapeños.

☆ Asia-Pacific markets mixed as traders await China and India inflation data

Traders in Asia will also look toward the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision on Wednesday stateside, which will come hours after the country's May inflation report. China's May inflation rate is expected to increase by 0.4%, slightly higher than the 0.3% seen in April. Separately, India's inflation rate is also forecast to climb marginally to 4.89%, according to a Reuters poll of economists, slightly higher than April's 4.83% increase. Japan's corporate goods inflation rate accelerated to 2.4% in May, beating expectations and marking its fastest rate of increase since August.
