The LA company that underwrote Trump's $175M appeal bond needs major vetting, NY says. Judge Arthur Engoron, who presided over Trump's civil fraud trial, gets final say over the bond. AdvertisementThe New York Attorney General's Office wants a closer look at Donald Trump's $175 million appeal bond. In a two-page court filing Thursday, state officials are giving Trump or his underwriters — the Knight Specialty Insurance Company — ten days to "justify," or prove the sufficiency of, the bond. Justifying was not necessary, for example, when Trump used insurance giant Chubb to post a $92 million bond last month for his E. Jean Carroll defamation appeal.

But on that winter night in 1985 even Knight's mother, Hazel, sensed something was different as she watched the scene. In the years following the chair-throwing game, former players told stories of Knight's practices, with some alleging physical, verbal or emotional abuse. The chair stopped near the sideline and Reid helped retrieve it, linking him with Knight for college basketball eternity. Longtime public address announcer Chuck Crabb had the unenviable task of telling fans Knight had been ejected. "I get up, and I'm up and down a lot, and one time I'm standing up and I looked across the floor and (hear) 'Coach Knight?'"

Home prices are on a tear again across much of the nation after falling for much of last year. Home prices in June hit record highs in 60% of U.S. markets, according to a new report from Black Knight, set to be released Monday. Higher mortgage rates have been a huge deterrent for current homeowners to list their homes for sale because they don't want to trade up to these higher rates on another purchase. Prospective homebuyers today are looking at paying more than 36% of their income on that payment thanks to higher home prices and higher rates. The average rate on the popular 30-year fixed mortgage hit 7.2% on Thursday, according to Mortgage News Daily.

"There is no doubt that the housing market has reignited from a home-price perspective," said Andy Walden, Black Knight's vice president of enterprise research. Active listings have worsened in 95% of major markets this year and are more than 50% below pre-pandemic levels, according to Black Knight. After cooling for the better part of last year, home prices are on the rise again. "Just five months ago, prices were declining on a seasonally adjusted month-over-month basis in 92% of all major U.S. markets. Competition among buyers is not only pushing prices higher but also accelerating the market again. Of the nation's 50 largest housing markets by population, just Austin, Salt Lake City and San Antonio are seeing prices fall month to month. A separate report released Tuesday from CoreLogic focuses on home price comparisons from a year ago, but also shows prices gaining month to month.
Stellantis on Wednesday said it has hired the chief financial officer from global grocery company Ahold Delhaize to replace CFO Richard Palmer, who plans to leave the company at the end of June. Palmer will be succeeded by Natalie Knight, who has served as CFO at the Netherlands-based food retailer since early 2020. The automaker did not release details regarding why Palmer, who served as CFO through two major global mergers, is leaving the company. The resulting automaker then merged with French company PSA Groupe in 2021, forming Stellantis. Stellantis said Knight will be based at the company's U.S. headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, "with extensive travel to Europe and the other regions."
In 1977, Nike executive Rob Strasser typed a list of 10 company "principles." The raw and unfiltered list captures the irreverence and combativeness of early Nike employees. It was republished after the April 2023 release of "Air," a movie about how Nike signed Michael Jordan. The list, which captures the irreverence and competitiveness of early Nike employees, once again is making the rounds on social media. One of them: "Be on the offense, always," a direct nod at Strasser's list, and a phrase that remains a favorite of Nike executives.

Fittingly as "Air" hits theaters, Nike will release an Air Jordan in "lucky green." "Luck plays a big role," Nike cofounder Phil Knight wrote in the closing of his 2016 memoir, "Shoe Dog." Athletes get lucky, poets get lucky, businesses get lucky." Knight wrote. Next Wednesday, Nike will release the "Black and Lucky Green" Air Jordan 1.
The movie also shows how early Nike employees didn't hesitate to break rules. The scene sums up what's right, and what's wrong, with the movie, according to former and current Nike employees. It shows early Nike employees didn't hesitate to take risks. Nike veterans said the movie captures the company's willingness to take risks, especially early executives like Phil Knight, played by director Ben Affleck. Affleck, who also played Knight in the movie, nailed the story's arc, by all accounts.

The conservative blowback came as no surprise to Parker, who told Nike's board of directors to expect some short-term backlash. In late 2014, the BBC sent a film crew to Portland to interview several former Oregon Project employees. "He would be at the side of the track calling out runners' splits but wouldn't call Kara's out," Adam Goucher told me. When people asked why she left the Oregon Project, she said it was a "personal decision." "I don't think it has anything to do with who the CEO is," Goucher told me.
Home prices nationally rose 0.16% in February, when seasonally adjusted, according to Black Knight. By fall, the rate shot over 7%, and home prices began cooling more quickly. In December and January, however, mortgage rates began pulling back, and homebuyers were quick to take advantage. "Conscious of changing mortgage rates, home buyers are taking advantage of any rate declines," Lawrence Yun, NAR's chief economist, said in the February sales release. Mortgage rates began rising again in February and then fell back slightly in March due to market fears over the U.S. banking system, amid several bank collapses.
