‘Summer Camp’ (May 31)Kathy Bates, Diane Keaton and Alfre Woodard in "Summer Camp." The movie, costarring Vanessa Hudgens, follows 2020’s “Bad Boys for Life” (it seems that title’s promise didn’t quite stick). In the case of knee pain, there’s one simple yet effective exercise I favor to help alleviate pain and strengthen the muscles around your knees: the reverse lunge. Republicans drafted a document blasting Biden for not doing enough to help Ukraine. Weeks later, the GOP blocked an emergency spending bill that would have provided additional aid. AdvertisementThree Republican-led congressional committees drafted a document late last year slamming President Joe Biden for his handling of the Ukraine war. Weeks after it was drafted, the GOP blocked an emergency spending bill that would have sent more US aid to Ukraine. On December 6, Republicans tanked a spending bill that would have provided $50 billion in additional aid to Ukraine and $14 billion in aid to Israel, The New York Times reported last month.

In a grave blow to its prospects, Ukraine aid has now been embroiled by Republicans in a separate imbroglio over immigration. While Ukraine’s survival is at stake, so is the reputation of the United States as a global leader. Johnson may struggle to retain his tenuous hold on his job if he uses Democratic votes to pass a Ukraine funding package. The Ukraine aid package is now caught in the most intractable US political issue — immigration. “We are at a moment in history.”But a group of Republican senators who normally back Ukraine aid signaled Monday they couldn’t move forward without immigration changes attached to the measure.

Congress already has allocated $111 billion to assist Ukraine, including $67 billion in military procurement funding, $27 billion for economic and civil assistance and $10 billion for humanitarian aid. Young wrote that all of it, other than about 3% of the military funding, had been depleted by mid-November. The Biden administration has said it has slowed the pace of some military assistance to Kyiv in recent weeks to try to stretch supplies until Congress approves more funding. “We are out of money to support Ukraine in this fight,” Young wrote. “They were clear that Ukraine needs the aid soon — and so does our military need the aid soon,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told The Associated Press in an interview.

But first, Congress and the White House must hash out a deal to beef up U.S. border security. "I don't care how we pay for it," Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., said of the Israel aid in an appearance on CNBC's "Squawk Box." "The rest of the riddle is not going to be solved unless we have meaningful border security," Marshall said. "House Republicans have resolved that any national security supplemental package must begin with our own border. We believe both issues can be agreed upon if Senate Democrats and the White House will negotiate reasonably," Johnson said on X.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Efforts by the Biden administration to limit pollution from automobile tailpipes — a major source of planet-warming emissions — face a crucial test as legal challenges brought by Republican-led states head to a federal appeals court. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit will hear arguments Thursday and Friday on three cases challenging Biden administration rules targeting cars and trucks. The cases before the appeals court will test a 2021 Environmental Protection Agency rule that strengthened tailpipe pollution limits and a 2022 EPA decision that restored California’s authority to set its own tailpipe pollution standards for cars and SUVs. The court cases come as the Biden administration pushes the auto industry to quickly adopt electric vehicles as part of its climate agenda. “Far from doing something unexpected or novel'' in the tailpipe pollution rule, "EPA merely tightened existing standards,'' Kim wrote.

Ohio Republicans want to make it harder to amend their state's constitution. Ohio Republicans who pushed the measure argued that a higher threshold was needed to keep future amendments focused only on what Ohioians want. Ohio Republicans previously banned most August elections. The GOP presidential primary race has split over candidates who back a bare-minimum nationwide abortion ban and those who do not. Polling shows that a nationwide ban is broadly unpopular, but the nomination contest provides the perfect time for anti-abortion activists to pressure candidates on the issue.

Are Escalators and Moving Walkways Safe?
  + stars: | 2023-07-01 | by ( Mike Ives | Muktita Suhartono | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +3 min
Such walkways are known as “moving walks” to government regulators and construction companies. An escalator sits at about 30 degrees, but a moving walk’s incline is typically no more than a tenth of that. Escalators and moving walks ease the movement of billions of people through airports, shopping malls and other public spaces each year. Escalators and moving walks are widely seen as very safe. But even that figure is exceedingly small if you consider the sheer volume of escalator and moving walk trips that people take every day.

SYDNEY, June 28 (Reuters) - Australian Mollie O'Callaghan, who owns the fastest times of the year in both the 100 and 200 metres freestyle, has injured her knee a few weeks out from the start of the world championships in Japan. "It's all looking good for being at worlds, and there's nothing saying she's not going to be there," Taylor told The Australian newspaper. But there's nothing saying she won't be at worlds." The swimming at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka begins on July 23. Taylor said O'Callaghan, who already owns two Olympic and two World Championship relay gold medals at the age of 19, was an integral part of the Australia team.
