The biggest divide in our politics isn’t between Democrats and Republicans, or even left and right. It’s between people who follow politics closely, and those who pay almost no attention to it. If you’re in the former camp — and if you’re reading this, you probably are — the latter camp can seem inscrutable. As the 2024 election takes shape, this bloc appears crucial to determining who wins the presidency. An NBC News poll from April found that 15 percent of voters don’t follow political news, and Donald Trump was winning them by 26 points.

CNN —Group of Seven leaders have reached an agreement to loan money to Ukraine backed by the profits from frozen Russian investments, a senior administration official confirmed Thursday. While Ukraine is not a G7 member, its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, attended the summit and participated in a Thursday evening joint news conference with Biden. “Would we stand with Ukraine?” Biden said at the news conference. The United States, the G7 and countries around the world have consistently answered that question by saying yes we will. The loan will be drawn from funds frozen by Western leaders in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

CNN —National security adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday declined to say whether the US was comfortable with an Israeli hostage rescue mission that Gazan officials say killed more than two hundred. The Israeli military rescued four hostages in a special operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp, central Gaza, that Gazan authorities said killed 236 people and injured more than 400 others. An Israeli military spokesperson put the number of casualties from the operation at “under 100,” and had no information on how many of those were civilians. CNN previously reported that an American cell in Israel supported the efforts to rescue the four Israeli hostages, but Sullivan would not elaborate further. “The best way to get all of the hostages home and to protect Palestinian civilians is to end this war.

PVH , parent of the Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger brands, should see strong earnings ahead, according to UBS. Analyst Jay Sole kept his buy rating and hiked his price target on the clothing maker by 9%, or $14, to $174, which implies a potential upside of 43%. "We think PVH has the brand strength and balance sheet to drive earnings growth over the long term," Sole said in a Thursday note. He forecast PVH delivering five-year earnings growing at a 10.5% compound annual growth rate and raised his FY26 earnings per share estimate to 4%. The company probably saw 65% of sales and nearly 90% of profits coming outside North America, Sole said, but should be able to drive U.S. sales growth moving forward.

The tornado had just hit Greenfield, Iowa, and residents were already using skid loaders to clear streets. Spirit Airlines is doing away with both change and cancellation fees, effective immediately, days after Frontier's similar announcement, part of an overhaul of the country's biggest discount carriers' longtime strategy. Ancillary revenue routinely surpasses those airlines' ticket prices. Most larger rivals such as Delta , American , Alaska and United got rid of change fees during the pandemic except for the cheapest, most restrictive tickets. Along with getting rid of change fees, Frontier also announced Friday that it will start offering bundles that include add-on options such as early boarding and checked baggage that they previously offered a la carte.
