English Heritage, an organization that manages more than 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites in England, has discovered that a portrait dating back almost four centuries was later altered to “improve” the subject’s appearance. The portrait before the added changes were removed by the conservation team English HeritageConservators have now revealed the true face of noblewoman Diana Cecil, after spending hours removing changes to her features. Cecil (1596–1654), was the great-granddaughter of William Cecil, Lord Burghley, one of Elizabeth I’s closest friends and advisers. The restored version of the portrait will go on display in London from November 30. Liu said she still didn't have a clear head for the opening round in Cincinnati and has no idea why she played so well. On a warm July afternoon, Princess Mhoon, the director of the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project, was sitting in a bustling cafe on the outskirts of the University of Chicago’s campus in Hyde Park. Her parents met in an African dance class, and her father was a drummer for local dance companies. So, we had cherry vitamin C — that was my candy.”Recounting her early life, Mhoon, 47, moved through a who’s who of Chicago’s rich Black dance scene. Mhoon trained in African dance with Muntu Dance Theater and learned techniques of the African American diaspora with Najwa Dance Corps, both near where she grew up on the South Side. Several of these companies are now being brought together by the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project, an initiative that strives to help sustain Black dance makers in the city and offer lasting acknowledgment for their contributions.

In just 15 days, Kenwood Allen killed four people, prosecutors with the Manhattan district attorney’s office said on Wednesday. Mr. Allen, 33, was already charged late last year after prosecutors said he was part of a criminal operation that targeted people emerging from bars on Manhattan’s Lower East Side after a long night out. Prosecutors said that he would drug victims with fentanyl and other opioids before stealing their credit cards and other valuables, often leaving them unconscious on the street. On Wednesday, the Manhattan district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, said that further investigation had revealed the full breadth of Mr. Allen’s criminal operation. He was also charged with 17 counts of robbery and attempted robbery.

Walmart announced Tuesday it will abruptly close four underperforming Chicago stores, citing millions in annual losses. The company said its eight Chicago stores collectively have not been profitable since the first opened 17 years ago. Walmart said all employees at these four stores are eligible to transfer to other Walmart locations and will be paid through Aug. 11. The company will keep its other four Chicago stores open, it said. As of Jan. 31, the company operated more than 5,300 retail locations, including Supercenters, discount stores, Sam's Clubs and small-format stores.
