Kilauea Erupts in Hawaii With ‘Incandescent’ Glow
  + stars: | 2023-06-07 | by ( Remy Tumin | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: 1 min
Kilauea, the youngest and most active volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, erupted early Wednesday morning, officials said, sending fountains of lava spewing skyward before pooling and spreading across its summit. The U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory detected a glow in the web camera of the Kilauea summit and said the volcano began erupting around 4:44 a.m. local time. Less than an hour later, the lava created a brilliant black-and-orange web across the crater’s floor. As dawn broke, a livestream showed lava still bubbling but its surface beginning to harden. “The spreading across the floor of the crater was just totally incandescent,” Ken Hon, the scientist in charge of the observatory, said in an interview.

USGS/Ken Hon/Handout via REUTERSNov 29 (Reuters) - Hawaii's Mauna Loa began erupting on Nov. 27 for the first time in nearly four decades. * Mauna Loa is the largest active volcano on the planet, rising some 13,679 feet (4,169 meters) above the Pacific Ocean and dominating the Island of Hawai'i, also known as the Big Island. Geologists estimate that Mauna Loa first erupted on the sea floor between 600,000 and 1 million years ago, and emerged above sea level about 300,000 years ago. * Mauna Loa has previously erupted 33 times since modern record-keeping began in 1843, according to the USGS.

The latter boils down to trying to use tech to automate and innovate a key, but sometimes costly, part of the business, something Wall Street is well versed in. The world's largest active volcano has erupted in Hawaii for the first time in nearly four decades, officials said. Mauna Loa erupted at 11:30 p.m. local time Sunday night (4:30 a.m. EST on Monday), the United States Geological Survey said. It was the first eruption since 1984, according to the Hawaii Volcano Observatory daily update, issued by the U.S. Geological Survey. Residents at risk from Mauna Loa lava flows were warned to "review preparedness and refer to Hawai‘i County Civil Defense information for further guidance." It is one of six volcanoes in the state of Hawaii, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
