More than halfway through the third quarter, many of the biggest commodity ETFs in the United States are in sizable holes. Kathy Kriskey, senior commodities ETF strategist at Invesco, said that oil supply is actually tight at the moment. The commodities slump could be partially due to mechanical factors in the market, such as low trading volumes combined with large commodity trading advisors betting against the sector, Kriskey said. "The price of corn has taken almost three full years from those 2022 spike highs to get back down. And oil, one of the biggest weights in commodity indexes, could see stepped up supply in coming months.

Trump Media, which began being publicly traded last week, is now far and away the most expensive U.S. stock to sell short, according to S3 Partners , a leading financial data marketplace platform. You need a lot of cash — and guts — to short Trump Media stock right now. "It's the most expensive stock borrow," Dusaniwsky said of Trump Media. As of Wednesday, the short interest in Trump Media — or value of shares borrowed for short trades — was about $255 million. The investors who are able to borrow shares from their brokers for a Trump Media short sale are "good customers" of those brokers, he said.

But never an end solution.”There are many reasons why someone might reject shelter, say homeless people and their advocates. Mario Tama | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesEarly Black Friday discounts were far higher this October compared to prior years, signaling retailers are concerned that demand could be tepid during the crucial holiday shopping season. Last year, about 30% of overall holiday sales happened online and other non-stores versus physical retail locations, according to the NRF. On average, 7.8% of all items were on sale at some point during the month compared to just 4.9% in 2019 and 3.3% in 2021. In Oct. 2022, prices were down just .7% compared to the prior year and in Oct. 2021, prices were up 1.9% compared to the prior year. The following year, when both inventories and inflation had grown and consumers were starting to feel the burn of high prices, promotions rose.

By Steve GarmhausenGood news for savers: interest rates on high-yield savings accounts and CDs are beating inflation. Savings accounts and CDs, even the best of them, paid interest rates below the rate of inflation. If inflation is, say, 5% and your savings account pays 1%, $1,000 in cash will be worth just $960 in a year. The average savings account interest rate is just .42% and the typical one-year CD pays 1.72%. “The difference between an online savings account and the average brick and mortar account is huge right now,” says Tumin.

August 6 - The Philadelphia Phillies would like to see this version of $300 million shortstop Trea Turner -- and their suddenly Turner-supporting fans --- on Sunday and for the rest of the season. After a grassroots support campaign for Turner -- roughly organized by Philadelphia radio station WIP -- Phillies fans greeted Turner with a standing ovation before his first at-bat in Friday's series opener. Turner added an RBI double in the eighth to provide an insurance run, drawing another ovation from fans who will see Turner in Philadelphia through 2033 under his 11-year contract. "Roller coaster is obviously the first thing that comes to mind," Turner said after Saturday's win. Turner is 1-for-6 in his career against the 39-year-old Greinke (1-11, 5.32 ERA), who opposes Philadelphia right-hander Taijuan Walker (12-4, 3.99) on Sunday.

But the unique accounting standards that the industry has long relied on to make those calculations is anything but straightforward. “Hollywood accounting,” as a concept, is so specific to the entertainment business it has its own Wikipedia page. And while experts say this kind of creative accounting is perfectly legal, the tactics involve some of the most fantastical fictions ever devised in Tinseltown. To actually make the movie, the subsidiary inevitably takes on expenses — crew wages, craft services, set design, props etc. That means all of these “creative” expense allocations shouldn’t affect what net profits the studio’s shareholders see.

Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman al-Saud arrives for the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) meeting in Vienna on June 3, 2023. The influential Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies, known as OPEC+, on Sunday made no changes to its planned oil production cuts for this year, as coalition chair Saudi Arabia announced further voluntary declines. OPEC+ also announced in a statement that it will limit combined oil production to 40.463 million barrels per day over January-December 2024. The Saudi energy minister described the kingdom's additional 1 million barrel-per-day voluntary reduction as a "Saudi lollipop" and stressed it will implemented. Ahead of the meeting, Saudi oil minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman in late May warned oil market speculators to "watch out," in a comment widely read as heralding another supply cut.

REUTERS/Reuters TVMay 7 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden on Sunday called on Congress to pass gun control bills in the wake of yet another mass shooting that left nine people dead, including the gunman, at a Texas mall on Saturday. The gunman killed eight people, including children, and wounded at least seven, before a police officer killed him, police said on Saturday. Some Twitter users said people and politicians needed to see videos like this one to grasp the magnitude and horrific nature of gun violence. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats stressed the need to pass stronger gun safety legislation to curtail gun violence. One unidentified eyewitness told local ABC affiliate WFAA TV that the gunman was "walking down the sidewalk just ... shooting his gun outside."
Influencers and members of Gen Z are swapping smartphones for "dumb phones" that can only call and text, CNBC reported. The trend has since expanded to influencers who are documenting their journey of winding down screen time with the use of dumb phones. "What we're trying to do with the Light phone isn't to create a dumb phone, but to create a more intentional phone — a premium, minimal phone — which isn't inherently anti-technology," Hollier told the outlet. TikToker Alex Purdy used a Light brand dumb phone for a month and shared an update with followers in January. In the video, Purdy mentioned some issues with receiving texts, but ultimately encouraged commenters to get one of their own.

Hungary vows to fight in EU court to defend anti-LGBT law

BUDAPEST, March 9 (Reuters) - Hungary's Justice Minister said late on Wednesday that Budapest would fight in the Court of Justice of the EU to defend an education law that Brussels says discriminates against people on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. The government has said the law aimed to protect children, not target the LGBT community. "Just as we have done so far, we will go to the wall if it's about protecting our children," Varga said, adding that uphold the legislation was necessary and further measures would be taken. The European Commission referred Hungary to the Court of Justice of the EU over the anti-LGBT law in mid-2022. The commission has said it considers that the law violates the EU's internal market rules, the fundamental rights of individuals and EU values.

I don't really understand like the whole stigma of why everyone is like, "Lefties are always going left," and all this other stuff.
[1/7] Lava fountains and flows illuminate the area with a glow at the Mauna Loa volcano eruption in Hawaii, U.S. December 2, 2022. REUTERS/Go NakamuraDec 2 (Reuters) - The lava flowing from Hawaii's Mauna Loa, which is the world's largest active volcano and erupted this week, is edging closer to the Big Island's main highway. But the USGS also said that because of the unpredictable nature of lava flows, it's "difficult to estimate when or if the flow will impact" the highway, which is the island's main east- west road. On flatter ground, lava flows spread out and "inflate" - creating individual lobes that can advance quickly and then stall. Mauna Loa rises 13,679 feet (4,169 meters) above the Pacific Ocean, part of a chain of volcanoes that formed the islands of Hawaii.

Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender creator who has chronicled her transition with her "Days of Girlhood" series, on Sunday responded to a slew of Caitlyn Jenner's tweets in which she commented on Mulvaney's body. Mulvaney said what prompted the response was one of Jenner's tweets, in which she said, "He is talking about his penis!" Mulvaney then pulled up a screenshot of a different Jenner tweet, in which she wrote, in part, "Dylan...congrats your trans with a penis." In the video, Mulvaney said the experience made her realize that transgender women should not feel compelled to avoid wearing tight pants or tuck their penises. Prior to Mulvaney posting her video, Jenner said in a tweet she had "never received more death threats."
