Job adverts that don't list a degree requirement have increased by 90% in the UK, LinkedIn says. Major firms including IBM, Google, and Tesla are hiring more based on skills over qualifications. Companies including IBM, Accenture, Dell, Bank of America, Google, and Tesla are among those that are increasingly hiring based on skills. The fastest-growing in-demand skills in job listings since November 2022 include communications, flexibility, professional ethics, social perceptiveness, and self-management, per LinkedIn. Billionaire Elon Musk, who head five companies including Tesla, is among the most prominent business people to be skeptical of the usefulness of college degrees.

Company values are increasingly important to employees, and can be deciding factors for those considering quitting, or choosing a new job, LinkedIn says. A survey from LinkedIn found the vast majority, 87%, of Gen Z professionals would be prepared to quit their jobs to work elsewhere if the values of the new company were more closely aligned. At a time when many are bearing the brunt of a cost-of-living crisis, Graff said the survey's findings underscore the importance of company values to an employee. Over the past two years, there has been a 154% increase in entry-level job postings that mention company values, the platform says. The change is paying off for companies — job ads that talk about values receive almost double the amount of applications compared to two years ago, LinkedIn says.
But some jobs are actually growing, data from LinkedIn shows. The top three jobs all require an average of just over four years of job experience, according to LinkedIn. Enterprise account executives, which are the sixth fastest growing job, had the most opportunities to work remotely. Sustainability-related jobs have surged across the continent and are in the top five fastest-growing roles in Germany and France as well as the U.K., according to LinkedIn. While the figures around job vacancies declining suggest that hiring is slowing down in the U.K., the labor market remains strong.
Those who have gotten used to flexible working might soon have a rude awakening. The amount of remote job postings on LinkedIn are falling, according to new data released by the platform. In the U.S. for example, the share of postings with remote roles has declined by 5 percentage points since April, when they peaked at 20% of postings. Despite the drop in remote working jobs in the U.S., these postings are still receiving over half of the total applications as of September, LinkedIn's data shows. The research shows that countries around the world follow a similar pattern — in the U.K., remote jobs make up 14.6% of opportunities, but get 20.2% of total applications and in India, the 11.3% of available remote roles are being sent 20.3% of resumes.
