Andrew "Rube" Foster is considered by many to be the father of Black baseball. In the series, 'Field of Dreams...Deferred,' Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, says "the one fundamental difference" between the Major Leagues and the Negro Leagues was economic. Earlier this year, MLB teams wore Negro National League throwback jerseys with a badge commemorating the centennary of the league. Compared with the NFL and the NBA, the percentage of Black Americans playing in Major League Baseball (MLB) is far lower. By remembering the Negro Leagues and people like Foster, America remembers a story of Black empowerment.

A separate effort by Four Directions — led by Mr. Semans’s daughter, Donna Semans, a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe — registered about 2,000 Navajo voters. Native Americans were also influential in Wisconsin, where Mr. Biden won by about 20,000 votes. The state’s most Democratic area, where Mr. Biden received 82 percent of the vote, was Menominee County, which is near Green Bay and is home to the Menominee Tribe. Ashland and Bayfield Counties, which have significant Native American populations, were blue spots in a sea of red in northern Wisconsin. Native turnout was substantial, and heavily Democratic, even in states where the race wasn’t close, like North and South Dakota (which Mr. Trump won) and Minnesota (which Mr. Biden won).

Another top star in the National Basketball Association will be endorsing sports drink maker Gatorade -- but this one is a budding music star as well. Damián Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers' superstar guard, agreed to an endorsement deal with PepsiCo's Gatorade, the company announced on Friday. Outside of the NBA, the Blazers guard has gained fame in the music industry for his hip-hop recordings, released under the name Dame D.O.L.L.A. Top hip-hop acts have embraced and collaborated with Lillard, meaning that Gatorade gets a cross-over star endorsing their product on multiple platforms. New York (CNN Business) 3M, maker of Post-Its and industrial materials, is cutting about 3% of its global workforce, amounting to roughly 2,900 jobs, as the company continues its restructuring plan. The company also manufactures the highly sought-after N95 mask and has struggled to keep up with demand. Sales for its health-care sector jumped more than 25% in its most recent earnings period. It's the latest change for the industrial conglomerate. 3M laid off 1,500 employees in January as the company struggled in the trade war between China and the United States.

The firm declined to specify the terms of the deal but said it bought AccessData for more than $100 million. Last year, Exterro snapped up the legal tech company Jordan Lawrence, enabling it to expand into the data privacy space. The optimistic outlook is shaped by favorable conditions for integrated platforms like Exterro in the broader legal tech market. It makes sense for companies to use integrated platforms from a cost and efficiency standpoint, as evidenced by the wave of acquisitions from other large legal tech companies like Clio and DocuSign. Balachandran thinks it's just a matter of time before the fragmented legal tech market becomes increasingly consolidated.

With recent sightings of monoliths in Utah, Romania, and California resembling the alien monoliths in "2001: A Space Odyssey," we break down three theories on why we haven't found any aliens yet. So the question is, why haven't we found even a hint of it? It's the idea that most aliens are hibernating, sort of like a bear but for longer. So digital aliens would see the logic of hibernating for a few trillion years or so while the universe expands and cools. So perhaps the real reason we haven't found aliens yet is because, well, they're all dead.

Spit in a Tube and Mail It In: A New Frontier in Covid Testing

FULLERTON, Calif. — The post-Thanksgiving rush for Covid-19 testing is on: Pharmacies in the Southern California suburbs are advising customers lucky enough to score appointments that it could be four days before they receive results. In Chelsea, Mass., a line of people who hoped for testing, pelted by rain and wind, strung along an entire block early this week. In Atlanta, people have idled in cars, sometimes for hours, to get swabbed at drive-throughs. Testing has long been one of the keys to controlling the spread of a virus that with the onset of winter is entering its most dangerous phase. Yet even as infection rates have rocketed, securing a test has become enough of an ordeal that many people have been dissuaded from even trying.

Pinterest shareholders sued the company, top executives, and board of directors on Tuesday, accusing them of harming investors by creating and perpetuating a culture of racial and sex discrimination. Pinterest has faced intense backlash from current and former employees and civil rights groups in recent months over its treatment of women and people of color. As Business Insider's Taylor Nicole Rogers and Julie Bort previously reported, former Pinterest employees described a traumatic workplace where managers humiliate employees until they cry, Black people feel alienated, and the toxic culture "eats away at your soul." Pinterest's former COO, Françoise Brougher, filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the company in August. Pro-abortion activist Lupita Ruiz poses for a photo during an interview with Reuters, in Mexico City, Mexico November 11, 2020. Catalina Martinez, director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Center for Reproductive Rights, a legal advocacy organization, said Argentina’s example inspired protests across Latin America. Outrage at worsening gender violence in Latin America, where the number of femicides has doubled in five years, has also spread awareness of the abortion rights movement and fueled demands for recognition of women’s rights in a conservative, male-dominated society. As in the United States, where conservatives have made gains in restricting a woman’s right to an abortion, there is pushback in Latin America against the calls for greater liberalization. To Briceno, Brazil’s shift to the right under Bolsonaro, who has vowed to veto any pro-abortion bills, was a reminder to push even harder for abortion rights.

Artificial intelligence start-up Scale announced Tuesday that it has raised $155 million, led by Tiger Global. AI has been around for decades, but building an AI model that does what it's supposed to do isn't always fast or easy. Scale AI, founded in 2016, specializes in performing that work for its clients. The AI market isn't as large and easy to understand as the market for, say, social media. For example, Scale said Tuesday it's acquiring Helia AI, a start-up that was building software to help companies run AI models on video streams in real time.

Zoom shares fell nearly 14% on Tuesday, a day after the company beat third-quarter earnings expectations but signaled its tremendous growth rate may slow. The videoconferencing software company reported that its revenue grew 367% on an annualized basis during the third quarter. Revenue increased 355% in the second quarter. Zoom's gross margin also declined to 66.7% from 67.3% in the second quarter, partially because it has a larger number of free users, including students and teachers who have started to use the service more now that school has resumed. Shares of Zoom, one of the biggest winners from the pandemic, has soared over 500% this year.

The brand follows a similar playbook to the launch of Nike's Jordan brand in 1997. Nike first signed Michael Jordan in 1984, creating many classic sneaker silhouettes over the next 13 years, before the official rollout of "Brand Jordan." "The question is whether Under Armour in an of itself will challenge the Jordan brand or challenge the Nike brand." Nike's revenue for 2019 rose to $39.1 billion, with the Jordan brand accounting for $3.1 billion. To the BMO analyst, the Curry brand should not be viewed as Under Armour's attempt to rival the Jordan brand.
