So it makes sense that James Goldstein’s house, hovering over a canyon atop Beverly Hills, Calif., is one of the most strange, fascinating and perplexing architectural projects in the world. Goldstein, 84, a controversial figure who made his fortune investing in mobile-home parks in California, may be familiar to you. He’s that leathery-skinned, frizzy-haired guy always sitting courtside at N.B.A. “The word subtle doesn’t exist for me,” Goldstein said, dressed in all-black tennis gear and a palm tree-emblazoned black jacket. He’s sitting on the sprawling lower terrace of his home’s recently-completed (for now), three-level addition, which is a separate compound overlooking the towers of Century City and, beyond that, the glinting bend of the Pacific Coast.

CNN —Donald Trump’s leadership PAC paid out more than $2.9 million to law firms last month as his legal troubles mounted and racked up an additional $1.9 million in unpaid legal bills at the end of January, according to a filing Tuesday night with federal regulators. Save America, a political action committee seeded with money Trump raised after his 2020 loss, has been the primary vehicle for underwriting legal bills for Trump and some witnesses in the cases surrounding him. Last year alone, Save America spent more than $55 million on legal bills, accounting for nearly 85% of its spending. Trump’s political operation has directed 10% of the money it raises online from his political supporters to Save America. “It is a form of Navalny, it is a form of communism or fascism,” Trump said.

The vast majority — nearly $40 million — went to law firms working on his personal legal problems. But significant portions of their donations went to law firms defending Trump in civil cases involving his real-estate empire and its top executives, including Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Ivanka Trump. Only about $861,000 was spent on law firms working exclusively on political issues. Where there were gaps, we contacted law firms and individual lawyers who received money from the PACs. In 2021 and 2022 combined, Trump spent $16 million on legal fees through the Save America PAC.

The testy clashes have come to be expected as Trump's lawyers carry into the courtroom the bombastic, and often antagonistic, style that defines his campaign trail demeanor. There's no doubt that the lawyers, with some exceptions, have struggled to score major points with judges and in fact have often provoked their ire. Both cases have been defined by contentious exchanges between judges and Trump and his lawyers. In November, for instance, they pushed unsuccessfully for a mistrial in the fraud case, accusing Judge Arthur Engoron of “tangible and overwhelming” bias. Chutkan has repeatedly admonished Trump’s lawyers for political arguments, once telling attorney John Lauro during debate over whether restrictions could be placed on Trump's speech that though she knew he had a “message” to convey, she didn't want campaign rhetoric in court.

"These measures could boost (earnings) growth and help asset prices recover in 2024," Liu said. As per the forecasts, the consumer staples and software sectors are set to post earnings growth of 40% and 30%, respectively. The consumer discretionary and industrial sectors are each expected to see roughly 20% growth, while the real estate sector may grow 18%. Such stable or growth-centric government policies would also boost investor confidence in the e-commerce and consumer sectors, Lau added. Trump's legal team argued against his gag order in his upcoming election interference trial. AdvertisementA panel of three judges on Monday appeared highly skeptical of arguments from Donald Trump's legal team seeking to revoke a gag order that bars him from attacking potential witnesses in his election interference criminal case. Depending on "the context," Lauro argued, Trump would be permitted to pressure possible witnesses not to cooperate with prosecutors. The gag order in the election interference case is separate from a gag order in another ongoing civil trial against Trump in New York. He found that Trump violated it earlier in November, though an appeals court on Thursday temporarily lifted the order.

REUTERS/Shannon Stapleton Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Donald Trump has filed a legal motion backing media requests for live television coverage of his federal trial on charges he conspired to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Trump is facing four criminal proceedings, including the federal court trial set for March in which he faces charges of attempting to defraud the federal government and obstructing Congress by knowingly spreading false claims of election fraud. In his latest filing by his lawyers, John Lauro and Todd Blanche, Trump endorsed requests by media organizations that U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan allow live television coverage of the trial. "Every person in America, and beyond, should have the opportunity to study this case firsthand and watch as, if there is a trial, President Trump exonerates himself of these baseless and politically motivated charges," said the filing. Smith earlier this month opposed the media requests, citing a decades-old federal court rule barring broadcasts of criminal proceedings.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Iowa on Monday, Trump called the judge's order "unconstitutional" and vowed to appeal it. "I'll be the only politician in history that runs with a gag order where I'm not allowed to criticize people," Trump told supporters. The order bars Trump, frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, and attorneys in the case from personally targeting Special Counsel Jack Smith, prosecutors working with him and court staff. Prosecutors sought a limited gag order that would bar certain statements from Trump during the case. The judge said she would allow Trump to make critical statements about the U.S. Justice Department and that denounce the prosecution as politically motivated.
