The Western Heights School District board accepted the resignation of Shane Murnan, the former principal at John Glenn Elementary School, on Monday — a little over five months after beginning the position. As NBC News reported, publicizing Murnan's hobby quickly led to Murnan and the school district receiving bomb threats, leading to Murnan's voluntary departure. "Drag queens do not belong in Oklahoma schools," Walters tweeted. Walters' celebratory tweet on Wednesday wasn't the first time he's weighed in online about Murnan's resignation.

No one behind in the national polls by as much as Haley at this point in the primary calendar has ever ended up winning the nomination. A late October Des Moines Register poll had Trump at 43% to Haley and DeSantis each at 16% in Iowa. They both went on to win Iowa. Haley, however, doesn’t need to win Iowa to secure the GOP nomination. Hart’s overperformance in Iowa was a big reason he went to win the New Hampshire primary in 1984.

LONDON — U.K. inflation cooled significantly in June, coming in below consensus expectations at 7.9% annually. On a monthly basis, headline CPI increased by 0.1%, below a consensus forecast of 0.4%. Falling prices for motor fuel made the largest downward contributions to the monthly change in the CPI annual rate, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday. Food prices rose in June, but by less than in the same period of last year. Chief Secretary to the Treasury John Glen told CNBC on Wednesday that the larger-than-expected decline in the inflation rate was "very encouraging."

Junior doctors will now get a 6% pay uplift and a lump-sum pay increase of 1,250 pounds ($1,633.25), while teachers would get 6.5%. He also announced pay increases for police (7%) and armed forces (5%). Glen said there would be no new borrowing or spending to fund the increases although teachers' pay rises would be funded by a reallocation of the existing education department budget.

But the imperative for self-contained, low-waste food production requiring minimal resources has become more pronounced as NASA sets its sights on returning astronauts to the moon and eventual human exploration of Mars and beyond. Advances in space-based food production also have direct applications for feeding Earth's ever-growing population in an era when climate change is making food more scarce and harder to produce, Fritsche said.

John Glen, chief secretary to the UK Treasury, said last week he did not have any immediate concerns about the execution of Switzerland's Credit Suisse rescue by UBS.

WASHINGTON, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Blue Origin, the private space company founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos, was awarded its first interplanetary NASA contract on Thursday to launch a mission next year to study the magnetic field around Mars, the U.S. space agency and company said. Blue Origin has flown previous NASA missions with its smaller, suborbital New Shepard rocket, which can carry research payloads on short, microgravity trips to the edge of space and back. Blue Origin, known for its astro-tourism business for wealthy customers and celebrities, is one of 13 firms NASA chose last year for its Venture-class Acquisition of Dedicated and Rideshare missions (VADR) program. VADR essentially is intended to spur private development of private space launch vehicles by assigning lower-cost NASA science missions to new rockets with an unproven record and higher chance of failure. Blue Origin also declined to discuss financial details.

UK extends support for high loan-to-value mortgages
  + stars: | 2022-12-19 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
The Mortgage Guarantee Scheme was launched in April 2021 and had been due to stop at the end of this year but instead will continue until the end of 2023. The extension comes as lenders report falling house prices in the face of rising mortgage interest rates and a squeeze on buyers' disposable income. Last week mortgage lender Halifax forecast house prices would drop 8% next year, and in November it recorded the largest monthly drop in house prices since 2008. Under the mortgage guarantee scheme, the government receives a fee from lenders in exchange for covering almost all the extra risk of a 95% loan-to-value mortgage, compared to one that is made at 80% loan-to-value. The mortgage guarantee scheme can be used to finance house purchases costing up to 600,000 pounds ($731,000).

Some Conservative lawmakers have suggested they may even quit the party if Johnson wins. “His manipulation of the Conservative Party, his dishonesty and boosterism were all designed to cloak the absence of any realistic policies. Sunak commanded the support of more Conservative lawmakers than Truss, but lost out in the final members’ vote. But he is viewed as responsible for Johnson’s downfall by some allies of the former prime minister, who are unlikely to cheer a Sunak premiership. Starmer, the Labour Party leader, would be the clear favorite to be prime minister if an election were held any time soon.
